Funny old world.
    #26572262 - 04/01/20 10:51 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

My best friends ever have always been gay and lesbian, the most trustworthy and unassuming of all.

For the last year or so my daughter says she is lesbian.

Funny world.

I believe homosexuality is a condition influenced preference and not genetic. I am no expert by any means but i am always curious about homosexuals' parents' relationships. I know a pair of siblings whom are opposite gender but are both homosexual. My best friend all through school came out as a homosexual male. I have homosexual female friends too. While i personally am straight, i do prefer to be on the bottom and am probably a bit more feminine (or at least i'm not ashamed of wearing purple socks lol ) than seemingly most other men.
If i were to analyse my parent's relationship, my mother was definitely the provider in the relationship while i was growing up.

Who's the provider in your relationship and do you think it may have contributed to your daughter's sexuality?

It seems to me to be genetic. Maybe people are just afraid to explore that side due to the vilification of same sex attraction and sex. I don't see anything wrong with sex with a person you are attracted to no matter the gender etc....If you connect mentally, everything else is a boner bonus!

Northerner: is it upsetting you? Are you religious? I wrote a papaer on the subject about 10 years a go and used this book. It was incredibly insightful.

Seems odd that you think it could be something environmental vs biological, and yet you could still find it throughout all time, in every single culture of the world, no matter how hostile society is - not uncommonly to the point where it could genuinely get you killed. And also outside our species. And if you think that it's related to the parental relationship then why would you see, for example, one male sibling with a preference for male romantic partners, and another with a preference for female partners?

My guess is that an awful lot of people are wired bisexual and can "choose" in that they may not act on their attraction to one gender.

I think everyone is different. I have never had a single doubt/thought in my head about being gay. Where as my best friend on this planet is. Everyone walks their own path.

I think it comes down to gender roles which have evolved with societies adoption of female rights. What's your theory?

I'm not upset at all, whatever my daughter does with her life is her choice. I would much rather she was happy and gay than miserable and straight. I have enough difficulty controlling my own life, I'm not about to try and control hers. I also think religion is a creation by men designed to control other people. I don't really care for babies either and whether or not she chooses to be a carer for other little people in her future is her prerogative. Not my problem.

What is even more curious is my daughter is an identical twin, yet her sister likes boys. So if homosexuality was genetic it would stand to reason that her sister would be gay too as they are genetically identical.

Such a curious thing. I want to hear from other people who have experienced similar, from either perspective. As a young person or as a parent.

Years ago I used to be a DJ, so I played a lot of gay clubs and had a lot of solid gay friends. Most of my friends were gay. But despite all the offers I've never been attracted to males, I doubt I could be gay for a day even if I tried. It's just not in me.

I always thought homosexuality was genetic, until now. Now I don't know what to think.

I don't really think anyone knows for sure. I think that it's probably at least in part due to both genetic and environmental factors in utero, but not completely. And that's a mostly uneducated guess on my part.

Ah but sir you used multispore. You know how genetics can be if you don't clone :awehigh:

Edit: @magenta I dont really have a theory.  If you want context my parents split before I was 1. My best friend had a "normal" family up until college then his parents split. He came out to me way before that though

Not true. I already said I have never had a gay thought in my entire life and I mean that. So either life is super complicated or I'm just not a human.

Yeah, guys just do nothing for me either. They are as sexually attractive as a kettle or a sofa.

I have gay friends who feel the same about the opposite gender too. Just nothing there. Never had or could have sex with them.

Can I go with 90% ? Sounds more feasible, maybe 75% actually on second thought. My thought is it's a lot more than admit it, and that's OK too.

I don't know about the number being quite that high, and I do believe there are people who are exclusively attracted to one gender as Northerner and spirit_shadow are saying, but I definitely would not be surprised if there were actually more bi-wired people than there are people who truly are exclusively straight.
