Brown rice agar

I'm starting to get into agar. For my first run I made 20 dishes with the water from boiled white rice, but after 10 days I've understood why everyone says to use brown rice instead. The mycelium is super weak and barely visible. Still, it's been a good learning experience and I got some practice separating mycelium from bacterial growth. A shame I'll have to scrap the remaining useless dishes, though.
For my second run I'd like to get a usable culture. Unfortunately because of quarantine everything is closed and I have nowhere to get any grains from. All I have is a kilo of birdseed that I'm saving for spawn, and regular store-bought brown rice. Any ideas how to prepare good, nutritious agar from this? My idea was to boil the rice and use the water (after separating the starch) like last time, but I don't know if that's enough. Is there anything I can add that will make it better? If it will be much better I guess I'll use the seed, but I don't know when I'll be able to get more.

Wispy / weak / fluffy looking mycellium is normal. Give it a couple more days and you should see more growth.
Occasionally, very rarely, I get a plate with vein-y, rhizomorphic growth. I've read they can form due to low nutrient content within the agar.
You can use honey or any other source of sugar to make your agar as well, I've never done it with flour/grains before.
Check out BOD's Comprehensive Agar Tek for more info.
Basically, 500ml water | 10g agar powder | 10g of nutrients such as corn syrup/light malt extract/dry dog food.

It's not merely non-rhizomorphic, though. It's barely visible. I had trouble seeing it from outside the SAB to cut out a piece for transfer. It's not the vibrant white I was expecting from pictures I've seen. I'm fairly certain it's not mold, by the way, just really thin mycelium. But okay, I'll take your word and give it a few days. Thanks.
