im Doing some research to see what people do to recycle their substrates e.g' grow other things with it, compost it ect
Also does anyone just sterilise contaminated jars?

I'm also interested what others do with spent subs.
As for the jars, I've had success with a nice soapy wash then a PC'er run with said jars in the hopes of total annihilation

I plug holes in the yard with it. Racoon's seem to love the spoiled corn.

You wash the outside of the jar then pressure cook or?
I like to compost old substrate I then use it to grow mainly tomatoes, peppers and onions.

Nice!!
And I like to scrub the entire surface. Of the jar both inside and out as well as the lid and ring then PC to sterilize

I'm fortunate in the spring/summer because we have curbside yard waste pickup. Toss it in with the grass clippings, ezpz! Winter time, i hate to but i bag it and throw it in the trash. I've thought about trying to mix them all up and disguise that it is mushroom substrate and offering it up as free compost on craigslist, but i know it's risky, should someone recognize them.
