Novice Cultivator Help Please

So, I'm a novice mushroom cultivator looking to begin my first ever cultivation. I have been identifying mushrooms for about 2 years now and consider myself to be pretty good at it. However, I cant say the same about cultivation. I just tilled a portion of my garden, and put logs down in partial shade, partial sun. The logs have an insane amount of turkey tail mycelium on them and some fyiting bodies already. I also have access to a couple oyster mushroom logs and plan to set them up against the fence in the same area. I plan to water regularly. Any advice for me to grow oysters, turkey tail, and other medicinal/edible mushrooms? Thanks so much in advance!

There’s another forum for growing edibles, not as active as this one but there’s a ton of good info and links to videos.

I would encourage you to pick up Stamets' book on Growing Gourmet Mushrooms. He provides species by species guidance that is more wholistically organized than the Shroomery. Much more organized info on growing edibles. Not dissing the forums here, just my experience. I also grow winecaps, and am trying to grow morels. There is also a facebook group, Mushroom Growing, that is focused on (non-active) edibles that is pretty helpful.

This thread was moved from Mushroom Cultivation.
Reason: I’m moving this to the edible forum but leaving a marker in cult for ya

@DdaShroom, you should consider trying to grow winecaps. They are stupid easy. Just get a bag of spawn, from one of many vendors, not supposed to name them here I believe. It should cost $25 or so. Dump it in hardwood chips, and stand back. They will spread through your garden, if there is wood debris in your soil, and appear everywhere. They spread 25 feet from the point of introduction in the first year when I started them, and now just appear around the yard. I am experimenting with a couple straw bales right now, spawned the a month ago. Should see the first flush in may or June, based on past experience. Oysters also grow in straw, though most people pastuerize the straw and use higher tech than I am.

If you are having trouble with Morels I saw some good videos about them on YouTube. I think they just added ash to blended mushrooms and water and spread that around their small farm.
