Possible first signs of Trich?
    #26570938 - 04/01/20 11:00 AM (3 years, 9 months ago)

This is day 8 of fruiting, no pins yet. Woke up this morning and saw these fluffy little balls but I cannot tell if these are knots or the start of trich. Separated this tub from the rest. I’ll know if it goes green by tomorrow but looking for opinions / might be useful to someone down the road if it turns out to be trich so you can see what it looks like before it goes totally green.

Crack in the sub is from the bottom of the tub bowing down when I had them stacked and then pressed up flat when I put it on the ground.

Will update this tomorrow / as it develops

Looks like normal tomentose growth to me. Keep an eye on it. Usually when trich myc first develops, it looks snow white or at least much more white than the surrounding myc.

I've had mycelium do that to me. I think it's called tomentose mycelium and it occurs when air exchange is restricted. Just give it a nice misting and fan more and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

You'll know if it's trich in a day or so if it turns green. Give it a wiff in the meantime if it still smells shroomy it's likely just tomentose mycelium and not trich.

I had some growth just like that in the corner of my tub and it did not produce as near as many fruits as the other parts of the substrate. Tomentose mycelium makes sense to me.

Thanks everyone! The bag colonized very quickly and was super fluffy as well. I had never heard of tomentose growth but that makes total sense after reading up on it a bit. Just looked a bit different than a couple of my other tubs and I’ve had trich before, so I didn’t want to risk it.
