The Good Ideas of COVID-19 * 5
    #26570439 - 04/01/20 06:01 AM (3 years, 9 months ago)

A lot of the world is or will be on lockdown, be made to stay at home. One of the consequences this has is that people will be hatching good ideas and are being subjected to reflection which can bring about new changes.

That is a silver lining of the dark cloud of COVID-19.

When we come out of our houses, many will do so with new insights, thought-through plans of action and maybe even new paradigms of thinking that hopefully will change the world for the better, personally, in our lives but also, for the world at large.

May -that- side of it, benefit Humanity greater, the side that forces you to regroup, both personally, as a family and as a society, and spawn new ideas to make the best of the situation.

One of the best things is that all those people who lack self reflection will be forced in to it, and the folks who are blind to the world around them will open their eyes and see it for what it is. Without our distractions all we have left is to think and find new knowledge, or simply exist. I think that will be a good thing for a lot of those 'squares' the hippies go on about.

I honestly feel like it's the opposite. This is basically encouraging most people to be at home staring at screens 24/7, a constant IV drip of mindless instant gratification, even more so than usual. I'd guess society will come out of this even more inpatient, narcissistic, and isolated... after the initial feel good fluff of the stay at home orders being lifted wears off.

The people who tend to good ideas will proceed to have them for the greater good, the others need entertainment for the greater good.

Soceity was too fast-paced anyway.

Divorce rates up.  Abuse rates up.  Suicide rates up.

Generally humans are social beings, so things artificial isolation will have negative effects on the population broadly speaking.

I'm using this opportunity to write a book, I can either sit around and cry about how much I lost or I can try make something of it. Its not so much the money either its the lost opportunities, all the things I would have been doing otherwise.

I don't hold out much hope we are going to come out of our houses in 4 months and love each other and decide to work out all our differences and sing kumbaya.

Maybe it will be like a magnetic pole shift, and all the squares become hippys and all the hippys become squares.

I'm assuming the fear of the virus and anxiety of having no job and having to stay home will keep most people from doing anything productive or creative. Domestic violence in my area has risen fairly significantly over the past few weeks. Less like an enlightening quite time and more like a "the purge" situation  most likely imo. Im not trying to be pessimistic thats just what I'm seeing.

Living with my mother and step-father again,
Mom has not gotten a new job yet, and my step-father may get laid off in two weeks if things don't pick up (his job is more seasonal, but Covid may have hit it, time will tell)
and in my case, rather than renting in their neighbourhood, living with them can provide some extra income on shared food bill and stuff

but the first thing Mom decided to cut to save money was the tv
on the premise that all of us can read more, or just resort to interwebz
and the blizzard this winter hit their place hard
so a ton of yard work to do through the spring

think it really comes down to how people adapt to circumstances

tho the college kids who were eating ramen and playing MOBAs all day may not even notice the world has changed

Am also kind of leary with the knowledge that the Manitoba government recently pushed through a bill regarding cutting the housing credit for E.I.
and they say it won't impact disability's version -- but don't want to be caught in a situation of picking up my monthly cheque and seeing a drop of 500 dollars and having to go to my landlord at that point

Trolls will be trolls lol. Also I don't see anything wrong with taking advantage of a negative circumstance. Trying to make something good out of it for your life. As long as your not fucking up other peoples life's to do it.

I have a good idea. Is there any facilities accepting willing test subjects? I am willing to get the virus for study.

Hopefully a good side here is that all those mediocre to bad restaurants that were open just because of some grandfather clause in a rent contract or whatever, will be closed permanently and only good ones will reopen.

This will also force a lot of people to make a decision they were on the fence about. It will create new businesses and opportunities for a lot of people, but destroy the same.
