Worst case scenario, plus minimizing exposure. I know some areas have a long way to go but it's gonna get there. If you can afford it I'd say the extra groceries are a safe gamble.

I went and did a second shop, I probably have enough food to last me 30-60 days, I went to walmart this time, and unlike the grocery store they were not sold out of all the cheap canned stuff, I picked up another 10 cans veggies, I have 30 total now, I picked up 8 tunas, 2 salmons, 2 cans fake spam, I think it was called luncheon meat, got some more bouillon, and 7 sidekicks, the just add water ones, I dont know how long my rice and beans will last but I have 16kg rice and 14kg beans, I plan to cook up 1.5 cups rice with 1 cup beans and 1 can veggies, split it into 2 and eat it for dinner 2 days in a row, eat tuna once a week or so for lunch and when my morale is really low, eat a sidekicks

I went to the grocery store yesturday and Im definitely seeing the National Shortage now. Its getting kinda scary now. Its getting a little too real at this point.
A little nervous over here but must remain calm. At least not everything is gone but certain items are still out of stock.

Its not a shortage as much as a distribution problem. The goodd are there they just aint getting to the customers fast enough. Stores need to say fuck stocking shelves and just put pallets out for people to raid. You should still be able to get what you need to survive but luxurious food items are going to be hard to come by.

So the shortage is caused by logistic issues not actual shortage issues?
I found that basic foods like flour and ramen are hard to come by while "fancy foods" are still available.
Also cat food is out. Good thing i got a 20lbs bag a few weeks ago.

There tends to be more stuff earlier in the day. They're just restocking at night so the stockers don't have to mingle with the customers.

Go as soon as it opens, grab any items that may disappear quickly FIRST. If this doesn't work, ask a stocker or cashier when the trucks come in. If it's the middle of the day the shelves will be stocked close to closing. If it's at night then go in the morning. There is tons of food we are just going to have to make some sacrifices on brands for the time being. The only way food can get scarce is if supply lines start shutting down and internal borders close. I mentioned somewhere around here lately that Chinese citizens and authorities of different provinces are clashing at the border based on their right to cross it. There's a perfect example of a place that could starve.

They reopened their borders but the neighboring province has the authorities and citizens blocking them from leaving Hubei(the province Wuhan is in). Mass rioting, violence. It should be world news but it's not. Imagine the neighboring states all lining up to tell New York they can't leave even though the fed ended a quarantine. Bullets would fly.

And on another note, for those of you in hurricane prone areas, you better gear up, because apparently hurricane season is predicted to be a bit of a doozy this year.

May be true for now but who knows how things could change going forward. At all levels of the supply chain people may start to fear coming in to work. Could well be interruptions to electric power too, which is a problem for refrigeration.
Stock up on nonperishables, grow a vegetable garden, know how to preserve fresh foods. A lot of people here will already have a pressure cooker and mason jars etc. A pressure cooker lets you can a lot more stuff than you could with just a hot water bath setup, including meats etc. Dehydrating is another food preservation technique a lot of people here will already have equipment for.

Its quite ironic that shroom cultivation has so many benefits in a Global Pandemic virus situation. Its sorta poetic
