This is not conocybe tenera. They're Pholiotina rugosa (conocybe filaris). Very toxic.

Pholiotina rugosa was described from the eastern USA, so I would be surprised if it turned up in Australia.    This is probably another member of Pholiotina section Pholiotina.  I am not sure what the choices are for Australia.

From Wikipedia: "Pholiotina rugosa is a common lawn mushroom which is widely distributed and especially common in the Pacific Northwest. It also grows on woodchips, rich soil and compost. It has been found in Europe, Asia and North America. It contains the same mycotoxins as the death cap."
I wouldn't be surprised if a very common and widely distibuted mushroom like this one showed up in Australia. They've got many introduced mushrooms there.
But, if not Pholiotina rugosa, what is it? It's very similar, if not identical macroscopically.

I've found it where I've been hunting liberty caps in Europe (also introduced to Australia) and where I hunt panaeolus cyanescens and cubes in Asia (both also introduced to Australia). I think the chances are it's been there for some time.

After a second look, it seems these have a brighter coloured stipe and lacks the fibrillose of the rugosa. Would be interesting to know what they are.

These species are pretty variable concerning minute details, it is usually not possible to distinguish them macroscopically.

I know many conocybes/pholiotinas can be impossible to distinguish macroscopically, but I've always thought the rugosa didn't have any identical looking relatives. Learn something new every day.
