When I was young, dumb, and far more ghetto than I am now....
I would use a nylon mesh bag (see paint sock, or bags at a brew supply for "brew in a bag") to suspend the fruits inside the box.
I mean i would open a box, put the whole box inside the bag, which allows you to push part of said bag into the box. I would even take a wire coat hanger and make a rectangle the same size as the box roughly and fit it inside to make the drying surface flat. I would put something flat and heavy on top, and yea fan, whatever heating element you can find.
Food dehydrators are pretty inexpensive tho, so hopefully you can find the money to invest in something that works 100% better

You've read my mind.
I have a small black fan that came off a Halloween inflatable character. The plan is to rig it up to the top of a box and suspend the fruits on screens.
I'm still not sure if I want passive intake with the fan acting as an exhaust or the fan blowing in.
Why not buy a dehydrator? Because I have the parts and this is part of the hobby for me.
I see fire hazard everywhere in this thread.
