Definitely check it out...most people who can listen to them with an open mind can appreciate them.....but you need to keep an open mind and really listen. They play all sorts of stuff, but all in an improvisational way....they "jam" a lot. If you like music, and can appreciate really good musicians, you will appreciate them. "That fat guy Jerry" fucking rocks. IMO he is one of the best guitarists ever and started a whole new kind of playing. He was {IS} very much a genius and a master of bringing life, mystery, beauty, space and LOVE through his guitar. I truly believe that he could channel the force of life and let it create through him. If you don't believe me, take some shrooms and listen to some of their live stuff. Unfortunately Jerry isn't here in body anymore, but you can still catch the Dead live and they are incredible!!! TOTALLY totally worth it. But of course not for everyone....

I remember the guitarist from The Doors(Robbie Krieger?), saying in an interview in a guitar magazine, that Hendrix totally captured the LSD experience in his music, whereas, Grateful Dead took alot of LSD and played awfully live.

Well, to each their own.  I would have loved to see Hendrix live but unfortunatley I was a baby so I missed him.  I feel extremely lucky to have seen the Dead so many times, and Jerry band....

Maybe Robbie Krieger was jealous?? Maybe he just didn't groove with the Dead, there are certainly plenty of people that don't.  Like I said before, they aren't for everyone.  Personally, I think the Dead made {make} much more amazing music than the Doors, although I really enjoy the Doors and used to have a HUGE crush on Jim Morrison ! I took LSD many many times while seeing the Dead live and it totally totally totally changed my life.  I became much more aware of the meaning of life, much more open-minded and much more able to love and be loved.  Just my experience though! Good luck, I hope you will give them a chance at least. Smoke a big bowl and put some live dead in. The 70's were awesome....

with that music selection i don't know if you would like the grateful dead. but like some other people mentioned, if you have an open mind to music, and appreciate talent, and etc you will enjoy them.

The Dead was best appreciated live. I've seen many shows in many states, including Jerry's last performance July 9th, 95 in Soldiers Field in CHicago. I've only seen The Other Ones once, in 98' in Alpine Valley, it was an awsome show. Heck the lot itself was always a blast and a virtual bazaar of vendors selling anything you could possibly want, and being kind was always the way to be.
