Win 7 dead, What about Win8.0 Pro?

Hello
I was given a genuine copy of widows 8.0 pro and was wondering if it would be a good or bad idea to intstall it over 7. Because of the fact that 7 is no longer supported, I don't want to keep using the internet using 7 hence the need to update. I could buy 10 but I already have 8 so would it be ok to use (even though it itself may soon lose support)?
I worry a little bit that because windows 8 was not well received by most, that it could be unsafe to use because Microsoft don't really bother with it anymore. So instead of having a team of thousands constantly working on windows 10 and keeping it up to date, that they probably get the janitor to one a week work on the updates and current security risks and so forth (for 8 that is).
What do you think?
Go 8 then update to 8.1?
Go 10
or should I finish this sentence?
it's a tough one

You used to be able to validate windows 10 with a windows 7 key. I did this twice right before windows 7 was discontinued.

cool thanks Crazy_Horse
Thanks for letting me know that, I'll have to give it a try.
But this brings me to another issue. I know that one day there will probably be no more cds anywhere and it will all be usb or something newer. Call me old fashion, but I really really prefer windows on cd, so that I can freshly install it whenever I like and how I like. Im guessing I'll have to download 10 off the net to be able to try what you suggesting, but I really don't like that idea. Is it still possible to get window cds anymore?

Hi LeAto
Thanks for that, that's the concern I have so I might have to go 10. Thanks again.

You can download an iso image from microsoft and burn a dvd or make a usb.
You need to install the same version as your windows 7 key, like pro or home.
you can use rufus to make a usb from the iso.

Look up windows media creation tool. It is from MicroSoft. You should be able to download and inatall Win 10 and automatically activate it.

Wow, that's awesome
Thank you Crazy_Horse, mycomyst, and BigGameHunter. coming your way.
Because I've never had to deal with ISO files before, it didn't cross my mind that it was an option so thank you guys.
Now that where I work has closed down due to virus, I've got the time to do something like reinstalling windows.
I currenty have a dual boot setup with XP (for older games) & 7, so I hope that when I put 10 over 7 it doesn't stuff up the duel boot, which works fine atm).
I'll let you all know how I go.
Have a great day

Hello All
Hope you're going well
Well, I'm writing this post on my windows 10 pro desktop
After following the great advice given above I was able to download an ISO of windows 10 and then I used the same processes to install win 10 straight to my desktop. I didn't want to spend time re-installing all of the software so that's why I went that way. The main thing I wanted was a cd copy for a fresh install in the near-ish future. So, as of a few days ago, it's still free to upgrade.

Well, if I knew it was this good (a few things are so so), I would have done this before. Win 7 looks more polished but 10 feels lighter and generally faster.
Oh, remember how I said I received a 8 pro copy? Well if you have a previous windows that's a pro version, Microsoft will let you use that key to upgrade to windows 10 whoa....., I mean Pro
Thanks again for your help Crazy_Horse, mycomyst, and BigGameHunter and to LeAto too.

Windows 8 looks like a super-retarded version of Windows 10 to me. I would stay with Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate
