Looking for some direction in choosing substrate and casing

Hello everyone,
Let me start off by saying, what an unbelievable amount of information just in the cultivation section on this board. It is truly a wealth of knowledge. However it can be somewhat daunting to go through, due to the shear amount of information. I have some basic questions, wanted to see what everyones thoughts are now that this board has been operating for almost 20 years it looks like.
I am about to purchase materials to bulk produce shoeboxes. I would like to use mason jars of incculate and a casing to do so. Should I order rye berry? or PF Tek? Coir for casing? Anything else?
I have already begun work on agar plates/LC/Slants for storage.
Thanks everyone for being so amazing on here!!

If you want to do bulk, then you definitely need grains. This choice is mostly dependent on what you can get for cheap in your local area.
Grains are usually called spawn and coir is the substrate. Casing is another thing and isn't needed, but some people like to do it. Anyways, I think coir is accepted as the easiest to work with substrate these times.
It's great that you're already starting agar work. It gives you a great understanding of the cultures and of clean/sterile technique.

you could use PF tek to bulk, but it would be super inefficient. if you have a PC use grains! bods oat prep tek is great for bulk. other than that use the berries or wild bird seed. there are some less used things you can use for spawn too. i use oats because they were the cheapest & easiest to find ($18 for a 75lb bag.)
coir is probably gonna be your best bet, though some people get creative on here. a lot of people just use straight coir with great results.
oat tek: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=24126032&page=0&vc=1#24126032
coir tek: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24077162#24077162 for that tek

Oats are the cheapest. They hydrate well and can also dry out well before PC.
My second choice is WBS because of the smaller kernel size if you decided to go agar to grain and then grain to grain those jars. 7.00 for 20lbs bag where I live.
I'm currently playing with Safflower Seed and Blackoil Sunflower Seed. Little more expensive locally. 9.00 for a 7lbs bag of Safflower seed.
The reason I am loving this spawn is that it changes colors based on hydration. So it starts out white and floats in a bucket of water. But after proper hydration it will turn grey and sink to the bottom. I have no results on fruiting yet.
