Will do! ... Yeah, I was just checking on the spot we've gone to in VA and it looks like they've been a bit warmer than we have.  The mountain range really does a good job of separating the cold air from one side to the other.

Are those from that spot?  It's been warm in your area, at least compared to up here.

Beautiful find man. Good for you. Killer finds already and your just getting started. I think this year is going to be epic. It's already looking like an epic morel season in spots, hoping that also means tons of ovoids also.

That cluster is from about 200 yards up river from the end spot, the early spot you know of.  About 200 yards up river and about 200 yards inland from the river.

Gotta run. HMU with your number again, yo.  PM it and I'll get in touch to fill you in.

Later

I've made at least 20 satellite colonies at this general area, conservatively,  and people i know have made at least another 20.

This is from a colony made 2 years ago and now this one will help make another.

Whats the process? And would you expect fruiting from it by next season or longer?

Find an old boxelder that has been dropping debris for 20 years, collect exactly one shitpile of the tree's leavins, find another boxelder tree which doesn't yet fruit ovoids, and drop your shitpile near that tree.

Scrape away the vegetation in a small area with your boot, make a little trench, partially bury a large slightly decayed piece of wood, lay 12 or 15 stem butts on it, lay a decayed branch on top of the butts, and stomp that sumbitch like it's a dogface pony soldier.

Throw a few more handfuls of sandy soil on it, stack what's left of your shitpile of boxelder debris on that, and pray to the gods of your choice for good things to happen.

I've seen them take two years to fruit and I've had them fruit in as little as 7 months.

Between the three of us--we were hunting pretty much together, as a group--we were fortunate enough to observe about 400 specimens.  2/3's were what I consider small to ultra small, but they all had matured enough to produce copious spores.

Some were protected enough that, with a little help of some greens we piled around them, they will mature over the next 3 to 7 days to start the next flush.

My previous earliest finds were on about 3 April and next earliest after that were around 12 April.  New personal best is 28 March and some of those fruits were about 4 to 6 days old.

Break a leg, everybody.

Anybody ever found these in inland Kentucky?

I have found them 45 minutes north of me near the Ohio river, but they don't seem to grow at all anywhere in my immediate area.

It's killing me not to get to go hit up my spots, from the lack of a vehicle, and they just do not grow in my town at all.
