SS Koh Samui 6 cake grow

Hello boomer town!
hows every ones feeling? good? Great! I haven't grown boomers in a long while and im just getting back into it.
I went with a Super Strain Koh Samui for this grow.
Currently, I am about 5 weeks into my grow. Cakes took a little bit longer than I wanted to fully colonize.
I went with a "dunk and roll" method after I birthed my cakes. I spray my cakes daily with a spray bottle to keep them moist.
I have 6 cakes going right now! HOORAY!
Keeping temps at around 76-78 degrees. Thinking of possibly increasing that to around 78-80 degrees. Higher temperatures around 80 seem to accelerate growth tremendously. Since its my first time back in awhile im just a little timid with this batch. Humidity is at a bomby 99% on the daily!
SO im about 5 weeks in and its been 2 days since I "dunk and rolled" my cakes. Im already seeing caps pop up and grow literally overnight. these mushies seem to love the day but after the lights go out who knows what youll find in the morning!

Did you roll your cakes in perlite?

Yes I did. After I birthed my cakes I submerged them for about 20 hours. then I immediately rolled them in dry perlite covering them in a "thin" layer of perlite. I probably could have brush a little of the extra perlite off the top but hey, its a learning experience and you wont know until you try!

Not the end of the world Bones but Vermiculite is what you roll in for the D&R.
You want a little foil underneath those so they’re not directly on the perlite, possibly spending energy on exploring the wet perlite or soaking up too much water.

oh good idea! im going to place a small piece of tin foil under my cakes like you mentioned. I was hoping the perlite would act in the same way vermiculite would to help keep the cakes moist.

Yeah it might do just that, though maybe not as well since the verm is more like a sponge and perlite is just like a really porous rock. I would pay close attention to cleaning those guys once you harvest, I hate getting the “crunchies” when I’m trying to force down cubes 😩 they taste weird enough without worrying about crunching on dirt/rocks

haha true true. a little chunky peanut butter covers up about anything though
I suppose if my cakes don't fruit like I want I can always dunk them again to clean off the perlite and roll in verm, right? Im just excited that mushrooms popped up almost immediately after I d&r and placed them back in the chamber!

Yeah I think a second dunk and rinse would be helpful. I seem to remember some kind of warning against rolling in verm on 2nd+ flushes. People say a lot of crazy stuff though so it’s probably fine. I only grew cakes a couple times and don’t remember if I did subsequent rolls.
I just did a search and read someone saying not to do it, and someone saying he D&R after every flush and it’s fine...so
Crunchy PB you say? Mmm

Temp dropped a little last night(forgot to put one of my heaters on) My one cake is just going wild and grow super fast. The others are slow to catch up. possibly from the temperature drop last night?

Not unless it neared the 50’s. Cubes are resilient, and one day in lower temps is going to have a negligible impact. The speed of growth is going to be mainly genetic. KSSS isn’t as domesticated as say GT or CRS, so your cake may vary wildly.

that's kind of what I figured. they only got down to low 70s over night and ill have them back up to 80 degrees in a couple hours or so.
also, im not sure if it was just the cake doing what it does or the light but I switched them to a full spectrum LED light and the one cake seems to be loving it.

Pure coincidence. Save the full spectrum for your cannabis. I run vertical 4’ 6500K T8’s, but 1 chicken coop CFL on top of your tub will produce the same results

BTW, 70 degrees is definitely not low temps, it’s ideal. I try to stay under 80, just because contams tend to thrive in the upper “acceptable” range.

Yeah I fruited in low 60s the last couple months.
You should switch cakes around and see if that corner where the one is doing great has better conditions for some reason.
