Are these contaminated? Or just more evidence of my never ending battle to maintain constant rh? These are brf cakes growing GTs in a sgfc.
Pic 1 shows fluffy popcorn like formation around the base of the cake (right side of pic)
Pic 2 shows white hairy/fuzzy on the stem of one shroom (blurry bc photographed thru clear plastic of fc)

Thank you!

Pic 1 Shows A Mutated Stem Which Is Still Fine To Eat.
Pic 2 Shows Mycelium Growing On A Stem, Might Have Some Bacteria, But Still Fine To Eat.
I See No Contamination On The Cakes. No Such Thing As Contaminated Fruits Unless Mold Is Growing On Them.
If The Mushrooms Grow, They Are Fine To Eat.👍

Fuzziness at the base of stems is a sign that you do not have enough FAE. You shouldn't be having issues with FAE however if you're using a SGFC. Do you have holes drilled in your tote? Did you drill to spec (2 inch grid)? Are holes on all 6 sides of the tote? Is the tote elevated off of the floor?
The "popcorn" formation you mention looks like a mutation. I am not sure if FAE or lack thereof however can form mutations. With that said, they're just as good to eat as any other mushroom.
You mention you have a struggle with maintaining RH. Is your SGFC filled with wet perlite at least 5 inches high? That's the correct minimum per PF tek. If yes, you can always add more perlite if you're still having issues with RH.
EDIT: fixed wording error.

Thank you both. Yes, 1/4 in holes in a 2 inch grid pattern, all 6 sides, and up off the floor (sits perpendicular atop another open tote) to allow airflow underneath. About 3 inches of perlite which I occasionally have to rehydrate. Add more?
Also thinking about switching to a humidity chamber -- new totes with no holes and coir instead of perlite with top partially open.

You should try to find a way to elevate the tote so that its bottom isn't obstructed at all. The perpendicular tote could very well be blocking some of the bottom holes. I'm not sure why you'd want to move to a HC. You have mushrooms growing from the cakes. Mutants and fuzzy feet aren't reason to feel you're not doing well with your grow and need to change things up. I'm not sure if it makes sense at this point to add more perlite (I'm very new at growing myself). Your cakes have mushrooms growing so the climate you've created is obviously suitable for growth. Not sure if another couple of perlite will make any difference.

Also, make sure your SGFC isn't too close to any walls as that can obstruct airflow and thereby negatively affect FAE.
