Help! Mono with Mycogone Perniciosa (Wet Bubble)
    #26561595 - 03/27/20 05:06 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Help please!

Maz spawn to verm/coir bulk SG mono 6 days ago. Covered with garbage bag to colonize, opened today to find these white blobs (bottom middle), what appears to be mycogone?

I've UTSF and read that this usually attacks fruits. Since there are no fruits yet, would it be possible to remove this before pinning starts? Or is it too late? Any way to save?

Also, would the cause of this be not enough GE during colonization? How to achieve this if the garbage bag is on?

Much gratitude for your input!

You don't want or need to colonize a tub. It can just be mixed
and left right in fruiting conditions. It doesn't need that high co2
environment. Leave the bag off and the lid on, you got holes in it so
its good to sit.

Those blobs are either from bacterial contamination or from lack of
free air exchange. Just let it sit just like it is in that pic except
putthe lid on.

Thanks, this helps greatly!
I got confused since it's my first SG mono and was probably reading outdated info about the bag over it.

So is this tub toast? Or can I leave it (with the lid on of course ) and see what fruits?

Definitely leave it for now is what I would do. It doesn't look too bad
and if it is it will show you with the increased free air and light. But
you may just get a bunch of fruits outta that bad boy.

Amd maybe give it a little gentle misting in the morning if there isn't
any little water droplets across it's surface

Thank you! I'll see if it fruits with the increased FAE/light. Always learning with this hobby (especially about mold).

Yeah contamination is always the enemy in this hobby. Best
secret is I can share is if your jars are perfect and clean
and your substrate is done up right you can achieve a perfect
success rate or 99.99% lol

I reccomend synthetic filter disks for your jars instead of other
substitutes that can work. A flowhood is one of the most important
tools to have. Mastering agar. And at least doing a solid bucket tek
with your coir. The rest just kinda falls into place with practice.

I'll check out the synthetic disks, been putting it off since I was taught with and still haven't run out of the tyvek envelopes I prepared in the beginning. Ghetto, but served me well.

In the process of learning agar, gone through about a hundred plates in the last 2 months. Some bacteria and such, but a few good transfers from prints were able to go to grain this week, happy about that. Honestly, I didn't think I'd enjoy agar work as much as I do, but I find it to be quite rewarding.

Thanks again for your input, your great words of advice are just one of the many reasons I am grateful for the Shroomery community.

(I gave you a rating as a small token of my appreciation.)
