From scouring previous threads I haven't seen evidence of ovoids being found in southern DE. I'll keep looking, but I may have to drive 1.5 hours north (or west!) to get closer to the action.

Any of you guys from maybe Maryland or close by ever have luck along deer creek? I’ve found a bunch of good habit but just wondering if there’s been any other finds alone the creek

The coastal plain doesn’t seem to be a great habitat

I have no idea where that is but anywhere west of the Chesapeake is good. I have yet to fail to find ovoids on any creek in Maryland.

I would say the zone between Philadelphia and DC is the best ovoid hunting in the country

Found a handful more today. Anybody know how quickly these guys fully mature? I keep getting the old crust buckets. I frequent this spot fairly regularly, wonder if I'm just walking by them for a few days before I find them.

Early in the season, if the conditions are right, then can take 4 or more days to mature and still be good for harvesting at 7 or more days.

Later in the season, they can sometimes pin, grow, and be moldy in just a couple days.

No ovoids today but I did get some good pics. Here's the habitat I'm hunting.

These bank walls are the only thing that didn't get washed away from the flood. My guess is the mycelium is just now recolonizing everything like a jar that just got shook.

I did catch a wiff of some mushrooms and put my face to the debri pile and smelled. Pulled out these peices of wood with some ovoid mycelium on em.

Found a couple indicator species. :

No luck this afternoon even with the previous rain & sun today.  I'm hoping it's because it's too early in my area yet & not due to the locations I've chosen.  That would SUCK!

I couldn't even smell any but seen these 2 guys...

The Reshi & Oysters aren't indicates, they go all winter if the conditions are right but the Ink caps run pretty close in season but there's is longer.

Yeah, I know. I found mass fruiting of the inky caps last year at my spots.

Yes, Deer Creek is loaded in the right areas. Stay away from the elevated areas dominated by beech/oak and stay in the  lowlands/flood plains with box elders, knotweed and stinging nettle. This guy provides a photo of ovoids alongside Deer Creek for your viewing pleasure. He suggests parking along the Forge Hill Rd bridge and having a look directly below it if you're interested in confirming his finds. https://mushroomobserver.org/366587?q=19bhW

Nice!!!! :congrats:  Awesome finds so far this yr.  Looking forward to more pics from GA.  :super:

I went out for a lil yesterday, just to see how things were shaping up.  It's looking like another week or so before anything good is happening.  My transplants are colonized and looking good tho.  It'll be interesting to see how they do this yr.  I'm sure it'll be any day now for a lot of peeps.

I've driven 2.5 hours just to get to NDE. It's worth the drive though.

Nowhere in Delaware is 2.5 hours from another point in Delaware except in the summer on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
