My hidrator for old spores
    #26561953 - 03/27/20 07:27 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Hydration device that I have arranged from the materials in the house for old spores that have difficulty in germination.

Can you please explain this? I presume that that top syringe pressurizes the jar? have you had any luck with it so far?

Difficulty in germination in what aspects?

Old prints sometimes won’t germinate and so the next step is to force hydrate them.

That’s a pretty cool idea, little more complicated then the rubber band on the plunger but you could do way more at once in there.

Depending on the species, variety. I suppose the next step is actually to determine the difficulty germinating. Exogenous dormancy and endogenous dormancy are handled differently.

I love neat little engineering feats like this. OP, can you detail what you did here for the rest of the class please? Have you had success with this contraption yet?

I have gt and mex sports. They are 5 years old.
juicy agar, honey juice, dextrose water and rye. I have not been successful in germination for a month. I used almost all the sports pressure I had.
therefore I resort to methods such as hydration

here it is possible to open the system with a 3-spouted serum tap.
fix it with liquid seal and strong adhesive.
You can perform suction and pressing operations by controlling the direction of the tap flow.

Can air pressure force hydraulic pressure inside of the same space? It seems the PSI of air would have to be larger in order of magnitude that the seals on the syringe on the outside of the jar.

The pressure should be the same. I think what you're thinking is that gas is way more compressible than water.

update.
It is 2 weeks.
on the agar.
in sports syringes.
LC s
no germination was observed.
It did not work in sports stored in the wardrobe for 5 years

Im in the same boat my friend..just with agar and some important spores I wish would germinate...Noble effort man...I shall raise a glass and thank you for your vision.

I am still curious how psi could realistically over come osmotic pressure of a spore.  I have heard of this practice, but am a loss as to why it would work

You know at the time of compression there are processes going on between the water and whatever it's in contact with but extended pressure I don't know. Interesting concept!

Might even want to try a cycling pump kind of like a resuscitation thing..

Can we just admit that force hydration of spores in a myth? It would be like taking a dead seed and forcing water into it. You may hydrate the seed but that isn't all it takes for germination. Well, why not try force hydation with LC water instead of just water?

Lc waited for a week in the hydrator.
I took the myc as an example and put them on the PDA.
There is all the spores of a big fruit in the LC.
sports 5 years old.
but there is only yellow mold growth

I try every way to revive my existing spore

Water does not compress very easy. That being said, i don't think that contraption is doing anything. Look up compressing water.
