pan.....something...i think?
    #2656193 - 05/09/04 10:37 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

first off i thought pan. foe. but the gills look almost black like the spores off a pan. sub. to be sure i am taking a print right now and will report back with the true color not just an assumtion. second im not looking to catch a buzz from them i would just like to know what they might be. third they were found growing in a nice look lawn very very green grass, they were not growing together more like scattered over a 2 foot squared area. in central alabama. i tried to bruise the base of the stems but i dont really think they bruised any color and i could not get a good pic of the stem base. any replies are greatly appreciated.
thanks

just a guess though, dont quote me! good luck

looks to me to be some sort of panelous, i am not very familar with the mushrooms in your area. it could quite possibly be Pan. Subbalteus but there are other people on here who can give you a better ID

some type of lawn variety panaeolus speceis.
reddish stipes like pan sub also white edges on gills, gills strongly adnexed (a little moreso than most ive seen) it would seem.
i hazard to say panaeolus subbaltaetus, or something macroscopically indisiguishable from the same genus.
it which case, it is most likely active, though certainly quite weak.

you may feel confidant in calling them "pan subbs" I'm pretty sure thats what they are.

yeah, thats what they are.

hm... nice pictures, (but) next time line all the shrooms up in order and make sure to include a full view of the mushrooms from head to toe.

central alabama, in a lawn, black spore print.. definately a type of Panaeolus mushroom.

i would say they are not subbalteatus..

my guess ( guess ) would be Panaeolus sphinctrinus ... i find them in lawns here in florida also.

The lawn-shroom you were talking about the L-King and others finding in florida and georgia is in fact a psychoactive shroom, a latent producer of shroom chemicals (psilocin/psilocybin),, there have been many-dozens of finds of that shroom from people mostly in south florida (and me in south-west florida coast), and i think only once did the Lizard find a couple of them up near Atlanta (possibly but we couldn't be sure because he only found a couple and i don't think either of them stained any blue color [only 1 out of every dozen or so stain blue at the base of their stems mycelium])

Quote:

i tried to bruise the base of the stems but i dont really think they bruised any color and i could not get a good pic of the stem base

-no need to bruise or touch the mycelium, it will do it on it's own shortly after you pick them..

Thanks for sharing MESCALATO.

Keep shroomin,
Nice pics

oh and that lawn-shroom is possibly Panaeolus castaneifolius, but we cannot be sure, and people who have studied the spores of that mushroom under the microscope say the spore features do not match up to be castaneifolius; so it's sorta up in the air as to what to call them; i started with calling them Pan Casters for lack of anything else to call them.

and i have a hangover this mothers-day, something bad  so i'm sure if im making much sense.

Keep shroomin

They are not P. sphinctrinus, Panaeolina foenisecii nor P. subbalteatus.

But they are a panaeolus and most likely probably ot psychoactive/.

heres some lawn variety pan subs

and the above is some from the same area of the lawn after allowed to mature longer.

these are somewhat comparable to yours

i very seldom see pan sphinctrinus on even the most manured lawns.

i would try eating them if you really want to know, the worst that could happen is a belly ache. they aren't "edible" but not toxic either.  possibly active and nobody here can be sure.

but im pretty sure evryone will agree that they wont hurt you.... unless you eat too many and throw up or go crazy

i cant beleive nobody knows, but then, they look like they could be a variation of just about anything in the genus.

like check these out, i still cant figure out what they are, but they sure aren't active.

i just returned from walking my dog and found 3 mushrooms in my neighbor's yard. the little guys i found were identical to the mushroom with the top o the cap visible (with grey ring and brown peak) i was just wondering what they were (i got an almost black sporprint??) and then i ran across this, strange. Anyway maybe its a foreshadowing of weillis to pop up in the close future?!?!?!?
