Experiences with clear vs black liners
    #26561594 - 03/27/20 05:05 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

I will be using a liner soon when it's time for spawning, and I was curious as to what people have experienced using liners, specifically clear bags versus black bags. A friend told me just to use a plain old plastic grocery bag, it can be clear or whatever, doesn't matter. Or will fruiting be better with black? Does the light have any affect being be able to get through a clear liner versus not being able to with a black one?

The liner is to help maintain microclimate at the edges and to help make cleanup easier, nothing more. Your friend is right, though I'd use a thicker plastic bag to avoid tearing.

Clear or not won't matter regarding light, since side pins are caused by climate conditions in those areas. Light just helps to tell your fruits which way is up, but that comes after full colonization, evaporation/FAE, etc. which are far more important. Just don't stick your tub in the dark on purpose and you'll be ok.
