Treasure Coast Grow Log/General Discussion
#26561027 - 03/27/20 01:49 PM (11 months, 1 day ago) |

I recently began a treasure coast grow; like any grow I always look forward to sharing here on the forum. I aim to maybe give someone an extra thread to surf through to find what they may or may not be looking for! I want to be consistent with this log in updating/posting relevant and sufficient information.
About 3 days ago (3/24),!I inoculated 8 half-pint jars with a Treasure Coast spore syringe. Using fine vermiculite I used the 2:1:1 ratio (2c verm: 1c brf: 1c water). It didn’t take long to see growth; I see spots on almost every jar where I had inoculated!
Just a thought after I saw growth..previous successful grows, I used coarse vermiculite where as this time I used fine could it be possible that you see a tad bit quicker growth when using fine rather than coarse? Or is it just a matter of circumstance? Let me know what y’all think/know about it or if you have any other information about treasure coast or anything please share!

The finer vermiculite holds more moisture so it's best to be used in your substrate. I've used both and the coarse verm has colonized a bit faster for me. The treasure coast strain is a known fast colonizer. What strain did you use for your last grow?

Just a quick update! 6 days after inoculation, just wanted to share some pics of a few jars. Currently all of my jars are colonizing at a pretty fast rate and there are no signs of contaminates! I will post aa new update soon.

Just a few more pics 9 days after inoculation. I don't know if any of these are the same as the previous pics; I didn't want to spam images so I just grabbed a few jars. All jars are still colonizing nicely at a quick rate with no signs of contamination.

Thats pretty good growth for the time frame. At that rate theyll be colonized after 2 and a half weeks. Been a while since I did some cakes, I might have to make some, be nice to get back to basics lol.
As far as verm goes, I like using fine verm in cakes and medium to course verm in bulk subs. Some people like using only fine, some like only using course, its just preference really.

Cakes are my go to when it comes to spawning to bulk. Find it much easier and less time consuming than grain inoculation. I'll be crumbling these cakes and adding to a coir/verm sub.

Just a couple pics of a jar that is colonizing super fast. I inoculated on 3/24 so right around 11 days ago and it seems almost half way finished! I used the rest of the spore solution to make some LC about 4 days ago, it seems to be going well but I feel like it's too early to tell. This is my first time making LC so if anyone has any certain method or any info regarding LC to share, that would be cool.

There is no tek for spore solution to LC coz its crap shot.. once u master agar, LC will be your best friend.. cakes looks great btw
I combine this two teks https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24740168#24740168 https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26022486
I like wedge inoculation over josex method, but you need clean culture on agar for both methods so we are back on start line

So using spore solution to inoculate for LC isn't effective? Are you saying that inoculating an agar plate would be the better route?

Standard path is : spores on foil or MS syringe > agar > transfer till clen culture > (1) Grain > G2G > spawn OR (2) LC> grain > spawn Agar is MUST for LC and grain spawn, when i stared i tried both MS syrings form vendor to LC and to rye.. 4 out of 40 grain jars were useable and all LCs were fucked.. i dont say its impossible but i would not give it more then 25% chance for clean grain spawn or LC even if you have cleanest syringe on market...
Agar is really easy and fun and it takes only about 3-4 transfers from spores to have clean culture, once i stared agar work i lost maybe one LC and few grain jars in past year+.. and best shit is that you can store your cultures on slants so you dont have to clean it again, you can clone fruits, etcetc..
On pic u can see clean culture after 3 transfers from ms syringe ( i use only one tiny drop of that syringe) and cuts i made to inoculate LC

Half colonized LC from that plate (5days after inoculation)

Grain spawn after 7 days cca (10-20ml LC used)

It gave some monsters:

Yeah I've been wanting to try agar but I just moved and I don't have the most space right now so kind of just experimenting within my means at the moment. This is what it looks like so far.. It's a little difficult to see just because it's such little growth.

What's good, went for another photoshoot today (13 days since inoculation). Got some very strong growth going on in these jars! Super excited to crumble these cakes up and add to a mono tub. Also a pic of the LC I made about 5-7 days ago, currently no sign of contaminates.

We are about 16 days since inoculation. 4 of 8 of my jars are fully colonized as you can see from the pictures. The other 4 are about 5-7 days from 100% colonization.

About a couple days ago, I crumbled 6 of my cakes and mixed it into my substrate instead of layering it. The other two cakes, I plan to grow in vitro. So, yesterday I opened the two jars, cleaned the dry verm layer off, rinsed under cold water and then I added water to both jars to leave overnight for rehydration. This morning I dumped the water and added a thin layer of fine verm, then I put both jars into a shoebox container with the lid just sitting on top.
