Hi folks,
Brand new here. Bought this recently and was told it was cubensis:

Can anyone confirm that this is correct? Looks different to pictures of cubensis online.
Thanks heaps

welcome to the shroomery, they are not Psilocybe cubensis, but can you please post clear up close pictures of them outside of the bag, preferably with natural light. it is not easy to identify dried mushrooms but I will give it a shot.
edit: I agree that it can be Panaeolus cyanescens, that's why I wanted to see better pictures outside the bag

Agree. But we can't say for sure.

I say its majority Pan Cyans *Maybe* a few inactive pans...don't see anything other than Panaeolus in the mix so I would say he would be fine to chew em up and blast off...I recommend using a dosage calculator and weighing the dose accordingly

whatever you do, do not eat more than 2g the 1st time and trust me when I say 2g dry weight is plenty enough, if you eat more than that it can be very uncomfortable.

Are those even safe to eat? Why are they so black?...Those are like pure black lol, I've never seen such a thing.
All my mushrooms I pick from the outdoors so they are exposed to the elements, and I've still never seen mushrooms so black or anywhere near as disgusting looking as those in the OP .
If I was sold some mushrooms and I was told they were "cubensis" by the person who sold them to me...And if they don't look anything like cubensis and look like straight up like black death, I would not eat them. I would not trust the person I bought them off of if they don't even know what species they are.
Is it even possible to safely identify a crispy dry & blackened mushroom from a mediocre photograph? With out a spore print or any quality views of the characteristics of the mushroom.

They're probably very weak. I have never seen a batch of cyans this black before.

Hey thanks everyone for your input! Really appreciate it. The guy I got them from got them from the forager himself. I think the mule got his info all mixed up. I’ll know not to trust him in future.
Need to learn how to grow or forage them myself. So glad I found this community!

Looks like pan cyans that might have been dried too quickly or too high of a temperature. There should be a mild effect but still should have the usual pan cyan vibe. Maybe not all of them
