They could probably do a mix of sterilized polls, house to house collections, and online or mail votes. Minimalize the number of people who have to turnout in person.

This wouldn't surprise me, implement marshal law and with our fucked health care system, this virus could linger for years, if not decades, of non essential travel.

No matter how obvious the jest and the lack of any reality to the statement, never post anything to the effect of the POTUS coming to deliberate harm on the entire internet. You could get a knock on the door from people professionally obligated to have no sense of humor.

To be honest here, who really thinks joe biden or bernie sanders has a chance? Joe has textbook dementia watch his gaffe videos, bernie sanders is an extreme socialist, and many many people don't like him including me. I just dont see how either of them can win. They're both so old!!! 80 year olds as president?

If by extreme you mean Bernie wants to implement a few plans that virtually every other developed nation has already had for decades, sure he's "extreme". Bringing america into the twentieth century would be awful.

As for the OP, that's similar to what I've been saying from the beginning. I wouldn't be surprised if the failing to act for so long and his plan to re-open society so early aren't ploys so that it does in fact get much worse, and he can go for the power grab. Not convinced of it, but it's a pessimistic hunch.

Even at 73 Trump is a contender for oldest ever serving president of the US if he was to complete a second term. He's already in the #2 spot after Reagan, and holds the #1 spot for oldest at the start of his presidency.

Very true and in my opinion Reagan did a pretty damn good job. personally I just dont see either of them (joe/bernie) fit for president. I'm not a huge fan of trump, but I appreciate the fact he speaks his mind and a lot of politicians are scared to do that. Democrats set themselves up for failure it seems. Wish trump cared a little more about the environment rather than calling it all a hoax but he's got my support.

Yeah Biden is a total joke. Trump may speak his mind/have no filter but I don't believe for a second that he cares about the "little people". Bernie is who I'd be most likely to vote for if I lived there. In an American context he sounds pretty far left (the "Red scare" is alive and well IMO) but outside that bubble the Democrat mainstream is right of center if anything. The two parties serve pretty much the same moneyed interests and the choice between them is mostly just theater. The Democrats would rather lose (Biden) than field a candidate who isn't going to pretty much just keep up the status quo.

That's the sad thing that a lot of people don't realize. The democratic establishment is just as corrupt and in the pockets of corporate interests as Republicans are, they're just not as blatant about it and they mostly steer clear of anti-environment and anti-humanitarian pushes so people think they're the lesser evil.

I have not seen one Joe Biden bumper sticker or sign anywhere, I don't think he has one supporter on the Shroomery as far as I can tell. They already tried the "vote against trump" thing for Hillary, it didn't work. They need a candidate that gets people excited and drums up support, not someone that has handlers who keep him hidden from the public eye because he is cognitively impaired. I have no idea how that doesn't go without saying.

Bernie overwhelming has the energy and the support behind him. The problem is that his support skews young, and he wasn't able to get them to the polls for the primaries. The primaries really are not a great predictor of general election turnout though. I was in community college during the 2016 election and a professor asked if everyone had voted in the primary, the overwhelming response was "What does that mean, aren't elections in November?". Young people have different priorities and their focus is elsewhere typically, I haven't looked at the numbers but I would expect their turnout at the general election is at least triple what they had for the primaries. I think Biden voters would show up and vote for Bernie to get Trump out, I think most of the young Bernie voters will be fed up with the system and not make the effort for Biden.

Too bad the two party system is so entrenched by the electoral college thing, Bernie might have a shot just running anyway otherwise. Yang as VP in case he keels over lol.

Trump doesn't really speak his mind, he's a master at loose language that conveys feelings while often bouncing around a subject in public. He didn't genuinely stick to a lot that he ran on initially, mostly in the sense that he did not end corporate welfare (but enhanced it), he did not build a cabinet that was free of conflict of interest (he literally placed the very kinds of people he said he wouldn't day 1), he did not end tax loopholes for profitable companies (introduced new subsidies to the same), his tax plan did lower taxes temporarily (not at the rates his campaign said it would, and not in anyway balanced with a budget), and he has not drastically reduced the kind of government spending that he criticized past presidents for.

He's not being confusing because he's incapable of forming a cohesive narrative. He's not blurting out whatever comes to mind either. Everything he says on stage is a calculated move, he repeats things over and over again not because he hasn't practiced his lines, but because he is hammering a narrative into your mind. He's being confusing because it's in his advantage to do so. Many think he's stupid. I don't think so, I think he's one of the smartest players in a largely corrupt system for influence.

He's what happens when people OPENLY realize there is an oligarchy in control of the democracy (something that is always the case, but which is all too obvious when those in control are completely ineffective at balancing that yield of control towards stability). People openly see that our government is granting special privileges to an increasingly aristocratic class that profits from sustained warfare and international control of both markets and ideas. Donald Trump saw that as well and merely capitalized on that realization by saying openly what people knew already, and taking it a step further by creating division.

He is in every way a modern day Julius Caesar politically, but didn't need a civil war to take power because of the existing democratic systems in place. He used to the political climate and confirmed people's suspicions about things openly, and despite being someone who has benefited from the systems in place historically, decried many of those things to get public support towards his cause.

I don't personally like him. I think he's full of shit and promoting the same things he campaigned against, and I suspected that's exactly what we were looking at when he won. But I don't think he's dumb, and I can see why he was elected pretty clearly now. I have a strong feeling he'll win a second term and would have even if this virus stuff weren't taking place.

Had Sanders won, I would have voted for him. I still believe Trump would have won against Sanders though, but who knows. I won't personally be voting for Biden or Trump.
