Do you have any tips for growing datura? I've never had any plants except for some potted ivy I bought at a nursery (and that I almost managed to kill -- hah), but have been wanting to get more into gardening, and I think growing active plants could be a good way to motivate myself.
Not sure if I'd even want to take Datura, personally, a lot of the trip reports sound rather hellish. Still seems like it'd be fun to grow, though.

Growing datura is pretty easy, although it can be rather tricky to germinate the seeds.
I've had them take well over a month to germinate before.
I think the trick is to give them lots of heat before they will sprout.
However, once you get past that little hurdle, it's easy sailing, and they grow quite fast.
So, this all being said, go get motivated and grow you some active plants

What do you mean "lots of heat"? Just like set them out in the sun? Or are you talking something more than that, like blowdrying or even putting them in an oven?

No, haha, just using a humidity dome, and perhaps a heating mat under them, if you trying indoors.
Outside, I would wait until it gets hot out, and stays hot out.
I planted some, almost two weeks ago, outside, in my big Lime Tree's pot, and so far, not one has spouted.
I guarantee, that when it finally get hot, and stays hot, I'll go out one day, and BAM! Tons of Datura sprouts
