Advice on mixing Coco w/ Manure
    #26556130 - 03/24/20 10:58 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Hey everyone. I believe I'm getting close to moving on to the next step with these rye berries, buut!! This is the thing.. I got these 4 jars w/ 4 bags of substrate since I'm a begginer...

and it is recommended to do a 1:2 ratio.since I only have the 4 bags of manure,as you can see, not enough. So, do yall or would yall recommend combining two of these for one jar or mix one manure bag with coco coir to supplement the rest?????

Jar looks good, the other pic is backlit so

Use coir your first run, manure isn’t beginner friendly.

Dang. I got these bags of manure back in Feb 26th with the Jars. I hope they last long enough to use them later. Whats the issue with manure, if you don't mind me asking?

p.s. the other pic with the jar and manure was mainly to show the size or  amount.

Coir is just more forgiving than hpoo but if you’re competent and have space to work it is not hard to use.

Now I just remembered you said you bought the bags of manure, maybe they’re cow and not even horse? If so I have no experience with cow stuff but the reason manure is ‘tougher’ is that you have to properly pasteurize it, where with coir you can get away with just about any method of prep.

Since you bought these bags they’re probably pre pasteurized, but I’ve always had trouble trusting things I didn’t make lol, just because you never know how old they are and what conditions they’ve traveled through.

All that said it seems like your original issue was that you didn’t have enough bulk substrate for a 1:2 ratio? You can go 1:1 ratio and your bulk sub will just colonize faster.

By it colonizing faster, is it safe to assume that itll also affect the yield?

Thank you so much for the 411

if you're going to use the manure try 50/50 with coir and a good pasturizing tek
