Feds charge Venezuelan President Maduro, other top officials with narco-terrorism

https://news.google.com/articles/CAIiEIu8woG18nM8aDHl9zc37pAqGQgEKhAIACoHCAowvoX-CjCCzPYCMO_g3AU?hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US%3Aen

In a stunning announcement amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Justice Department plans to announce Thursday that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and other government officials have been charged with turning Venezuela into a narco-state by collaborating with a leftist Colombian guerrilla group that exported tons of cocaine to the United States.

An indictment, to be unveiled at a “virtual” news conference in Washington, D.C., accuses Maduro and other top officials in his socialist regime of conspiring with the U.S.-designated terrorist group known as the FARC so that Venezuela could be used for narcotics shipments to finance a long-running civil war against the Colombian government.

Charged along with Maduro are Diosdado Cabello, a former speaker of the National Assembly who is considered the second most powerful political figure in Venezuela, and Vladimir Padrino Lopez, the country’s minister of defense. All three Venezuelan officials face allegations of narco-terrorism, drug trafficking and weapons violations in a scheme initiated in the mid-2000s that was meant to help the Colombian rebel group while enriching themselves with cocaine-tainted bribes, according to federal authorities.

Maduro’s indictment marks the second time that the U.S. government has brought criminal charges against a foreign head of state. The last time was in 1989, when federal prosecutors in Miami indicted Panamanian strongman Manuel Noriega on drug-trafficking charges. and U.S. military forces seized him late that year. Noriega was convicted at trial, imprisoned in the Miami area and died in 2017.

In announcing Maduro’s indictment, Attorney General William Barr is expected to say that the U.S. government will offer a $15 million reward to anyone who provides information on when Maduro leaves Venezuela that assists in his capture.

On Thursday, U.S. officials also plans to designate Maduro’s government as a terrorist state, following last year’s freeze on Venezuelan assets in the United States as well as threats to sanction any company that does business with his oil-rich country. The Trump administration has rejected Maduro as the president of Venezuela and formally recognized the opposition leader, Juan Guaido, as the nation’s rightful leader.

Read the fine print. They "collaborated" with a rebel group...I'd want to see some evidence that Maduro was actually involved with the cocaine smuggling arm of this group, I doubt there is any. Don't trust anything from this administration.

I don't remember any elected US officials being charged, and pretty much everyone indicted only got probation and then was pardoned by H.W. Bush, after being directly involved with smuggling cocaine for the Contras or the US being designated a "terrorist" country after Reagan continued funneling money to the Contras with illegal weapons sales after Congress blocked all aid to the Contras. And you can bet your ass we "collaberated"(and continue to do so) with many groups involved in narcotics sales.

Is there something specific you want me to take away from that?

My favorite part is:

Quote:

I was advised by Major Rodriguez that "The Company" had arranged for an unusually high concentration of chlorine in the water supply of a tactical communications site called Skywatch. The CIA was unable to obtain the satellite operations frequencies from the military controlled site. (This was not unusual. The Department of Defense and the CIA have never developed a level of trust adequate to share secret information between agencies. I was one of several U.S. military officers recruited by "The Company" to "spy" on our military for the CIA. This small group of military officers report directly to the Director of the CIA. I reported to William Colby.) My mission was to obtain these frequencies while the doctor was tending to the ill soldiers. We flew a PA and our medic to the TAC site. While the PA and medic tended to the stomach cramped and diarrhea ridden American servicemen, I went into the communications van and copied the frequencies. When we returned to Palmerola, we experienced engine failure and were forced to auto-rotate from 8500 feet. The tailboom of the helicopter cracked when we crash landed.

That shit is crazy and hilarious...the CIA gave everyone diarrhea so they could spy on them, also kind of scary to think about the CIA actively poisoning the water supply of our own soldiers.

Quote:

At a cost of over $40 million the investigation yielded only a few prosecutions for minor infractions. It is curious that neither the Select Committee on Secret Military Assistance To Iran and the Nicaraguan Opposition subcommittee tasked with the congressional investigation of the Iran-Contra, nor the office of the Special Prosecutor assigned to investigate criminal wrong-doings which occurred during the Iran-Contra Affair, subpoenaed any active duty military personnel assigned to the border area of Nicaragua/Honduras. Had the service members been called to testify concerning the daily training/resupply, and support of the Contras, it would have been determined that the Boland Act, which prohibited any efforts of the United States or its military to support the Contra effort, was being violated. Testimony by military personnel would have also revealed that military aircraft and supplies were used to support the shipment of cocaine from manufacturing facilities co-located with CIA supported Contra camps. Why weren't we called to testify?

Curious indeed.

Are we not doing that same thing in Afghanistan?
We pushed the Taliban back so the society can produce opium which we than resell throughout the world as medical grade for BIG PHARM and divert the extra for illicit black market!
Taliban were the ones stopping it to keep the population from financial advancement and removing them!!
Now the Taliban is back at full strength and playing middleman for the US. The population grows/harvests and earns basically what they would get for growing vegetables and the Taliban profits from US purchases!
The US is trying to get a cease fire, which is code for obtaining the opium with a minimum presence in the country, militarily... Basically a business looking to cut cost of labor yet still maintain full production!!

Word on the street is some of those places, I can’t recall which specifically, are rich in lithium I think it was.  Ingredients used in batteries, which will be like the ‘new’ oil so people have been saying to keep an eye peeled for some shenanigans to go on down there..

I hear it’s pretty much universal that nobody wants China moving in because they treat people like shit..:smilingpuppy:

What a wonderful world we’re making this into, sky’s the limit..  I’m sure we’ll manage to sell that too.

No freaking kidding. Fuck ethics, there’s profit to be made!

And I’m all and out pro-capitalist. I’m not worried about capitalism being an ineffective system; I just think too many of us aren’t good English ugh for it.

The natural form of capitaliism is a perfect system!
The need to eliminate monopolies and CRONY capitalism is critical!!
The natural order and the weak being eaten by the strong is part of it!
There is no bailouts, too big too fail and do not be fooled by the lobbied political puppets, this is socialism for the wealthy(BAILOUTS)

Because when the US interferes, its for the greater good, THE US CORPORATE GREATER GOOD!
THAT makes it acceptable, when countries add their two cents  to our elections. its called interference, unless they are in support of the correct candidate.
Its not like Israel didn't interfeer, they were the primary funders of Trump's campaign through Sheldon adelson....Now he is repaying that support!
