Tubs behaving strangely, genetics, contam?

Dear Shroomerites,
I have some strange growth in some of my tubs. I obtained the mycelium from a trusted friend who germinated the spores and transferred multiple times on agar. I put it to grain and spawned to CVG:
I made shoeboxes by first mixing the myc and CVG, and put a layer of CVG on top to cover all the grains. Unlike my boxes that I started from clone mycelium, this mycelium almost fully colonized the top layer.
These tubs now starting to pin at the few spots where it isn't fully colonized.
I was wondering if it would be wise to cover the myc with a thin layer of CVG, or would it just grow over that too? Any experience/recommendations with this, or is it just some weird genetics or contam that I'm better of ditching?

Thanks yall for your input.

Hey bud. Not an expert by any means but short and sweet I would say no extra CVG.
To expand on that, the addition of anything suitable would still probably be colonized but wouldn't really serve a purpose from my point of view.
If you haven't done so yet I highly recommend doing a search about casings (whether or not to case as well as what the purpose of a casing is) and "scratching" techniques that are aimed at manipulating your pinset.
What does someone else think?

Thanks for your reply. Im using unmodified shoeboxes, following this tek: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26009662.
It has been working great for my cloned mycelium:

I read about casings indeed, and therefore chose to start simple by growing cubes who dont need casings in general. I may try it for this mycelium though to see if that improves fruiting. (Have 10 colonized jars with this myc) What is current consensus on cube casing, which type would work best?

It’s pretty normal to get the surface grown over like that.
Ill randomly case shoeboxes and it could be coincidence but I’ve never had a bad pinset with casing, although it pretty rare without too.
Jiffy 5050 mix works good right from the bag. I used to pasteurize it but now I just mix it with verm get it wet and use it.

Would a layer of verm also work? I dont think this jiffy mix is available in Europe and dont feel like balancing pH in my own mix if I can help it.

Thank you sir.
Yeah verm will work, I hear you on not wanting to make your own I kept putting it off until I found out about jiffy mix.
You might want to ask people who’ve got more experience with it, but if I was gonna case with verm I’d probably make it like 20% coir too. Idk if that’s a good idea or not though.

Thanks guys.
Ill try some with verm and some with a bit of coco mixed in (10 colonized quarts in line )
Anyone else that has experience/recommendations for casing cubes?
This home isolation has me active lol.

You lucky fucker xD I've been waiting for work to shut down so I could follow suit, but apparently delivery services are "essential" according to Lord Cuomo....
If I was a smart cookie I would have ordered some syringes or prints before shit got hairy xD Ohhh hindsight, always 20/20
