Psychedelic Research Survey: Psychedelics and Wellness 7
#26557133 - 03/25/20 01:37 PM (3 years, 9 months ago) |
|
|
- Survey link: https://www.psychedelicsandwellness.com
- Who is conducting the study: Saundra Jain, MA, PsyD, LPC and Rakesh Jain, MD, MPH. We live and practice in Austin, Texas. Rakesh is a child and adolescent psychiatrist and I am a psychotherapist. We’re both involved in research focusing much of our time on the study of wellness. We both hold adjunct clinical affiliate positions at the University of Texas, Austin, School of Nursing, and Rakesh is a Clinical Professor at Texas Tech School of Medicine – Permian Basin, Midland, Texas. We're both actively involved in peer-to-peer education both domestically and internationally. As discussed below, we’re very interested in the intersect between psychedelics and wellness and are committed to educating our colleagues about the use of psychedelics in the treatment of mental health conditions.
- History of our previous research project: We recently completed a preliminary survey investigating the interrelationship between psychedelics and wellness. The results were presented as a poster at the second-largest mental health conference in the US – Psych Congress – in early October 2019. We have since launched an expanded psychedelics and wellness study (PAWS), which can be accessed at https://www.psychedelicsandwellness.com. To participate in the study and be eligible to complete the online anonymous survey, subjects must be 18 years old or older and have taken a psychedelic at least once in their lifetime.
- Reason behind this research project: Following a four-decade moratorium, the therapeutic use of psychedelics has once more captured the collective attention of the medical community and the public at large. Now, at the forefront of a renaissance in psychedelic research, this study is investigating the interrelationship of psychedelics and mental wellness – a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community. This work will be unique in that it will collect both objective and subjective data to assess the interrelationship between psychedelics and wellness. It will lend support to the growing body of research in the use of psychedelics for both mental health conditions and the pursuit of overall mental wellness. It is expected that this anonymous online survey will support our hypothesis that there is a robust interrelationship between past psychedelic use and its impact on wellness.
- Where results may be published: Our goal is to publish the study findings to major psychiatric and nursing journals to educate our colleagues about the intersect between psychedelics and wellness. We are also interested in sharing our findings with the psychedelic community.

For anyone wondering, this study asks for ZERO personally identifiable info. It's a quick and painless multiple choice. I highly recommend anyone that supports the use of these substances medically to take a few minutes and click on some answer bubbles.

The last question was a bit disappointing.
Considering the implications brought up by the survey, why should they be legalized “for medicinal use” only?
Or is this a “follow in the footsteps of MJ legalization” type deal? Guess I’ll be able to get mushrooms at a store...if I have a medical card....and I’m in the right state...50 years from now

Hi Magenta, these guys approached us through other channels and do not appear to have a forum account. I did provide them a link to this thread and suggested that they might wish to sign up if they want to post any follow up information or respond to any questions our community might have for them. But regardless of whether or not they do that, I'm happy to play a hand in supporting legit research related to psychedelics.

Hello everyone! Thank you so much for taking the time to fill out the survey. We apologize for the delay in responding to the thread. We are happy to answer any questions about this survey and will be sure to monitor the thread as often as possible.
Much thanks to the admin team in helping us get this posted! This survey has been posted on MAPS social media and has been shared with many groups around the country. We still need many more responses in order to reach our goal. Any advice on how to get the survey out there is much appreciated.
Please feel free to reach out at any time. Most importantly, we hope that everyone stays safe during this stressful time.
Kindest regards,
PAWS Team

Hello Everyone -
Please forgive my delay in responding. I'm new to the world of social media but thanks to another team member, I'm learning.
THANKS to all of you for completing the survey and to the Shroomery team for supporting our work and helping us to get the word out.
As stated in a previous post from another team member, please let us know if you have any ideas about letting others know about the survey as we are moving towards our goal but there's still a ways to go.
We're here to answer any questions about the study, and we will definitely share our findings with the community once we complete the study.
Be well,
The PAWS Team

Hi Magenta.
Thank you for your very thoughtful comment. As researchers, we are willing to go wherever we need to explore these issues in-depth, and we will not forget your suggestion as we design and analyze this for the current and all future studies. As you know, this is the world's first assessment of the impact of psychedelics on human wellness and your and the other Shroomery members' input will have a profound and positive impact on changes in the minds of legislators and regulators all over the world. Please keep wonderful and useful comments coming!

Would have been nice to have an age when you first did psychedelics. First time was LSD around 16 so it's a bit hard to go back 28ish years. Only thing I really remember is being young dumb and full of cum like any other teenager/young adult.
"Has there been a death (or what ever) in the family effecting your sense of well being?" would have also been a helpful one to understand why everything was great, then after psychs, shit went down the tubes.
Leaving these two type of questions out kinda pollutes the purpose of the survey IMO.
Pscyhcs can only do so much to brighten the world when a large part of you died when your partner died. I will say the winter of high dose tripping every week at least gave me something new and fresh to look forward too. As well as realize useless thoughts or regrets can be ones downfall.
There is little doubt they saved me in the long run but the loss of a mate is an unfillable void and just as life changing as the psychedelic experience.
Therefore: my results showed that psychs make your sense of well being decline before and after which isn't necessarily the case.

I noticed the same, perhaps change the wording to specify that during the time of psychedelic activity or give a time window. It’s been 20 years, sure I had a sense of awe and new found love for life.

I wanted to contribute, but I started taking psychedelics 15 years ago, as a teenager and I feel that would skew the results.

Hi, I just filled the survey. Thank you for your work. Maybe sharing this on several subreddits such as r/LSD, r/shrooms, r/Psychonauts, r/Psychedelics, r/DMT etc will help getting this survey out there? Maybe asking the mods to make it sticky would help get it more attention?

Where do you stand on legalization?
I'm not going to add my voice to a survey that will aid a tool that is going to be used to benefit the pharmaceutical corporations.
Not so sure you're on the right website here, Saundra Jain. You smell way more like enemy to me, than friend.
Sorry lady. You and your husband smell like elitist neoliberalis.
Edit: This in particular made me barf.

a couple of the questions wouldn't allow me to choose certain answers, such as the cannabis misuse/abuse question, it wouldn't allow me to click on no change and there's another one I can't remember but it did the same thing.

I did the survey- I fully support the intention of your study, however, how do you expect to get meaningful data? You don’t ask about age of first use, or how long it’s been since we took them, or about mental health diagnoses and whether these preceded psychedelic use or came after, or what else might account for changes in wellbeing (other major life events)...

It was a little hard to answer because my first experience was so long ago, before I had any idea there were benefits to doing it, but I tried my best. I've only used micro/macro dosing over the last few years but I've definitely noticed a shift. Thanks for keeping the research going, this is world changing.

Took this survey, also have been involved in a microdosing study.
Seems to me, microdosing/macrodosing is more effective then most psych meds I have tried, with way less side effects. Also not having to take a medication daily is a huge plus. (Downside for big pharma )

can I ask what your psych diagnosis is? I've been around psychedelics for over 3 decades and I have only personally witnessed negative effects from psychedelics in 5 people and they all were diagnosed with the same disorder. So, I'm curious the hear what other mental health patients have to say about their experience.

I’m am just entering this world to help free me from depression. I learned about micro dosing psilocybin & was highly interested, considering I spent years with psych doctors experimenting with multiple cocktails to treat my depression & anxiety. I know it’s cliche to say, but I kinda had an awakening experience a little over a year ago and decided to stop taking meds. My problems appeared to be untreatable, so I felt the need to look for alternative ways to help heal my DIS-ease. I applied for a “micro dosing psilocybin“ study here in Florida but hadn’t heard anything back. So, now I’m doing this on my own and hoping to see a shift in my quality of life.
Do you have any recommendations for my journey?
Thank you 🙏🏼

Also eat well, sleep well, exercise, yoga, meditate, find something in life that gives you passion!
But don't disregard the professionals. If you can find a professional that can help you on the journey even better.

Hi, I well filled in the survey, but it troubles me a bit, I do feel that it was very poorly put together and I really do wonder as to what is the purpose of it.
The questions have a bit random feeling about them, the words and concepts used are mostly very vague, so than no two persons would understand the same thing about what the questions is about.
For someone who really experienced depressive states of the mind firsthand, the questions and descriptions are so very vague and simplistic. And neither is there any possibility to indicate the way the psychodelics are administered, quantity, periodicty....
Guess it is meant to generally reassure the patients to be, and the govenrnment, and to support the legalisation procedures, so good anyways ^.^
I did not think that a subject like this would be my first post on shroomery ;D

Thanks for the link. It's time to mainstream the understanding of the real benifit psychedelics have on personal wellbeing and mental health.

I have very little work in survey research but the idea is to have a broad range of data in order to get more accurate results. They can eliminate some of the questions that don't fit and use the ones that have more balance between all the surveyors. I had to do this stuff in college 20 years ago so I don't remember all the details but surveys like this are not targeting one group. seems to me they want everyone from us monthly users to the only 1 time and it was enough.
