Colonization Problem, Please Help! * 1
    #26556424 - 03/25/20 06:49 AM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Hi,

This is my second grow using the pint jar/brown rice/verm tek.  My first outing was successful.

This time, however, a few things changed:

-used remaining spores from syringes which had been stored in darkness in the refrigerator for a couple of months.

-experienced a slight miscalculation in my brown rice to verm ratio and ended up adding more verm to compensate for difference.

One other thing to add---the jars have been stored at room temperature for about two months.  But that's room temperature through January, February and now March.

Here's the problem---three months now and no signs of colonization!

Can anyone surmise what is the problem?

There are no signs of contamination.

Would it be foolish to order new spores and attempt to pressure cook and inoculate these same jars?

Thanks for any help!!!

It’s possible the spores are no longer good or that there wasn’t enough moisture. You may be able to reuse the substrate, but if it’s not taking you might want to start over.

Do you have any remaining mushrooms dried from your initial success? If so you could use them rather than have to purchase new spores.

Sorry to hear your having trouble and hope you find success soon

Yeah that's a really long time to not colonize. I'd suggest getting new
spores if you're out and starting over.

Also I'd recommend looking into working with agar, grains, and monotubs
Here is a ton of good info:
