Hello Shroomery, Have many people had success with the horse oats? I’d like to hear some feedback, I’ve only had success with rye berries, but I will be utilizing agar this time around and am hoping for much higher spawn inoculation success rate. I was also wondering if anyone has added gypsum, and coffee to the TEK. Thank you.

I had success with oats in past. I'm just starting up again and I'll keep using oats. Just make sure the outside of the hull is dry when you're filling the jars and you'll be good.

Yes it works perfectly. Oats are a little different to read, as they don't usually turn fully white but are still healthy.
Haven't had any issues doing rapid boil and steam dry/fan don't want to load them too wet

A lot of people PREFER just about anything to oats but they'll work. They'd always be my last choice after rye, wheat, wbs everything else.
No need for gypsum or coffee.

It's the only thing I've ever used. You just have to make sure they are FULLY dry before loading them.

Tried a few things and far prefer oats. I think the quality of the oats you get makes a difference. Mine are great and nothing is easier to prep. I guess if you can only find garbage oats then maybe not ideal. I get quality rye as well but I hate prepping it ( too easy to burst) and is more expensive.

I love oats. They were my main squeeze after I first tried them. I would soak with gypsum and coffee water. Sometimes 25-27 hours or so with no boil if I wasn’t in a rush. I think they’re the easiest grain spawn I’ve used and cubes love oats. Awesome information, thank you. Do you utilize coffee and gypsum when working with oats? Got a bit of a mixed message on that front.

Oats and water. You can use coffee, but on the scale of grains oats are the most nutritious grain second only.to maybe wheat or Rye.
Rye wheat and oats.
Millet, Milo, rye grass, corn.
Then sunflower, saflowe and Blackoil sunflower

Ive used WBS, Milo, popcorn, millet and oats.
Oats are my least favorite.
Millet is my #1. Super easy. Might cost a little more but from bag to jar with water then straight into the PC for 75mins.
No time at all spent [wasted] soaking, boiling and drying. That alone is worth it.
Plus g2g with millet is lightening fast. Myc just rips right through it.

Coffee and gypsum won't hurt anything of that's what you are wondering. It's also not necessary and probably not very useful. I prefer to use them both. Liquid coffee and gypsum. Rather or not it's helpful in any way. Idk. Did it this way for years though and it makes me feel better to use them. Gypsum is good especially when using cracked corn though. It can help keep the grains from sticking together.
