Should you PC Coir?

The question has been around for ages, pasteurize, Sterilize or Hot bucker cook your coir. Let me start out by saying I'm actually ok with this result, but I don't think it is oats. This has to be a contamination seed from the coir. Anyway cool picture bro.

So what did you do to get this result?
I’ve always pasteurized.

OP, I’ve had little green guys growing in my tubs before. Nothing to worry about.

Nice grow man
I've also looked into this question quite extensively at some point.. the general consensus that I've came across.. people do good with sterilization/pasturizing substrate but plenty of people do very well without also.. think it gets down to technique and environment ..my stuff gets dry easily.. 6k elevation and desert area.. Gonna try unpasteurized coir next round for sure tho

For coir it is not necessary to PC or pasteurize, you can just hydrate with cold water.
I personally boil 4.5 quarts of water, pour it over one brick in a 5 gallon tub and put the lid on loosely. Spawn 45 minutes after while coir is still hot. This stimulates growth and results in a faster colonization time.

It does.. doesn't mean it's ideal.. I feel like the answer to this question is quite suggestive.. everyone's situation is different..

Mixing mycelium with hot coir is a terrible idea and does absolutely nothing to result in faster colonization times and in fact is probably better for contams to grow faster instead. Dont do this op

i'm not talking about high temperatures. with the lid loose, it cools to near room temperature, ~80F
full colonization of 70qt from 10-12 days to 8-7 days with several varieties 1:1 coir:spawn

WTH are you guys talking about.
All I was saying was that I germinated some seed, which I'm assuming was in the coir because I didn't PC the coir and I faux pasteurized it instead.
Let's be clear for anyone else reading this, never spawn to hot coir.

The seed is from your WBS in the coir, most likely.

I use eco earth too. Could be from that, but I doubt it

if you hydrate with cold water any seeds in the coir may grow. bucket tek will kill seeds in the coir pasturizing will kill seeds in the coir sterilizing will kill seeds in the coir. if you have a seed knocked off of something that lands in your cooled coir in any of the above then it doesn't matter, your coir should also be seed free.
