Yeah, personally I've taken 5-10mg with no issues whatsoever, but it seems like science concludes that it's most effective in smaller doses, oddly enough. I take it right before bed, and try and go to bed or listen to music or guided meditation - it'll make you drowsy and help you get to sleep. It's something your body produces naturally, so it's not something you should take long term, otherwise it can stunt your natural production of it. Or so I've heard.

3mg is a lot for melatonin even though that's how it's dosed most often. .5 and 1mg does the trick for sleep.
Taking more may contribute to lucid dreaming exactly because it interrupts sleep though.

Fuck these gummies I used to get were 10 mg a piece! Crazy. I haven't taken it in forever, might have to order some that's at a lower dosage and try taking it again. Lockdown has fucked up my sleep schedule in amazing ways.

Fucked up your sleep in amazing ways? What an interesting paradox
Patrick, how does melatonin interrupt sleep? Does it "wake you up" in a sleepy sort of way?
Does Melatonin have reverse-tolerance properties if its more effective at 0.5mg?

As I understand it, melatonin is not quite what allows sleep to take place, instead it's a chemical trigger to tell your brain what time of day it is. For example, nocturnal animals who are awake during the night also have elevated levels of melatonin at night despite being wide awake and alert.
The melatonin level in your body is more a bio-indicator that the sun is down, and if you have too much or too little, your circadian rhythm gets out of pace and your body can no longer distinguish what time of day it is internally (even if you are consciously aware of the time of day). If you're someone that is nocturnal for years because of work, melatonin might even tell your pineal gland that it should be awake and should produce hormones reflecting that.
But your brain might only need as little as .1 mg to get the message, whereas 5 and 10 mg just confuses your pineal gland and hormone production even while in deep sleep and your sleep/wake cycles will be all over the place (at times causing very memorable dreams). It also affects temperature regulation, appetite and serotonin production (which your body converts melatonin to during the day) and can throw off your day schedule as well and cause night chills/sweats while you sleep.
It's very useful in resetting back to your regular sleep schedule or adjusting for jet lag. But in order for it to work to do these things you need to work with it by taking it sparingly, and going to bed at the same time everyday and just using it to tell your body that that is the time.

Read Rick Strassman's The Spirit Molecule about his DMT experiments while working night shift years ago one of the things that interested me was when he talked about wanting to experiment with melatonin and while describing it, he mentioned that someone who has a nocturnal schedule will also not produce melatonin while sleeping during the day unless completely blocked out from natural and artificial light
so apparently it can help in getting to sleep or curing insomnia, but am unclear on whether or how taking supplements may relate to a fixed daytime sleeping schedule

Ive only had a couple dreams that were "sequential" aka didnt jump around randomly. Those types of dreams are pretty rare in my experience. Enjoy them while u can!
I hear you on that! Before, when I smoked a lot, i would remember my dreams but they would jump around instead of being continuous. But since I don't smoke cannabis (for now), it's like I'm living a 2nd life or something. Almost makes me want to stay away from smoking but, I do love cannabis too haha. Searching for jobs at the moment though...
Take it to the next level and take some melatonin sometime .
Also sometimes I like to listen to guided meditation while I go to sleep. I don't know for sure if it helps me lucid dream, but I do feel like I sleep deeper and more peacefully when I do listen to it.
I will keep this in mind! Good idea. I usually keep music on low levels too, so I wonder if that has helped my vivid dreams lately. Thanks for the tip.

I did notice if I took 3-6mg to come down off coke, I would initially be sleepy, but it seemed like within 2-4 hours I would pop back wide awake.

Ahh that is such a cool dream OP, I'm jealous. Makes me want to attempt to cultivate some dream friends of my own. You ought to think of some questions you'd like to ask them. Asking them what they symbolize for instance.

LogicaL Chaos said: I have a new theory about "instant lucid dreaming". What if being in the proximity of a spirit within a dream makes someone instantly go into lucid dreaming?
This could explained why i had a lucid experience when my Grandpa's spirit visited me in my dream (he flew down from a hilltop and floated above the ground, which is when I went lucid) as well as LuSiD's experience with his "spirit friends" inside that house and him going Lucid.
I bet it has to do with the proximity of being near a spirit inside the dreamworld....
ah so other people get those instant dreams? I've been having lots of instant lucid dreams lately. Rarely I'll have little hallucinations while I'm on the verge of falling asleep. The other night I was mostly awake in bed with my eyes closed and a whole lucid dream environment appeared in my minds eye
best dream enhancing drug I've found is still smoking a little bit of weed if you wake up in the middle of the night. sounds counter intuitive I know, but its triggered all-night strings of lucid dreams for me on multiple occasions.
I never tried dream root but it sounded like it might be more promising than calea z

oh wow. Weed in the middle of the night? Damn. I wish I could do that. Weed wakes me up, even Indica's too but in a more hypnotic way.

OP, this sounds fantastic. If i lucid dream, i conjure mushrooms eat them and then I start to blast off but before I trip I go blind in the dream and everything slows down as if gravity just turned off, its as if it overloads the lucid dream capacity of my brain ...no idea.
Dream friends sounds dope. Have an orgy and ask them where they live? Then try meeting their parents and asking them where they live, keep doing that, funny shit happens.

Do you know their names, or did that fade already?
How many dreams have you know the same manifestations? Are they always exactly the same, if not (which I’d bet on bunt could be wrong) how do they differ? Phsycial appearances shit from dream to dream ie. Hair color brown one time, then blonde the next etc. Voice changes , I’m just trying to gauge the consistency of their display in your dreams.

Some interesting replies here guys, I kinda forgot I even made this thread lol
Sadly i haven't seen them again, but I have a feeling I will at some point.
I can vouch for melatonin giving more vivid dreams, I experimented with it quite a bit for awhile, it didn't do much to help me fall asleep which I was originally taking it for, but then I discovered its dream enhancing effects, while I can honestly say it definitely gives you more vivid dreams, and just more of them in general, it never really got me lucid any easier really, and the dream effects fade pretty quick after a week or so of use.
Look into galantamine and choline, the combo was absolutely unreal with causing lucid dreams... Seriously, it was nuts, lucidity every single time.. You could probably just use the galantamine itself though... Fuck all the other shit, this is king... I've tried a few different 'dream herbs' and most didn't really do shit, are also absolutely nasty to ingest (assuming tea form) and just weren't really worth my time or money.. These, you pop a pill and it works, and it works really fucking well... Not sure if its still available without a prescription, but when I bought it 8(ish) years ago it was available as lucid dream pills you could just order online... Its typically prescribed for Alzheimers if I remember correctly.
But yeah, seriously, look into galantamime if you want a legit lucid dream pill, best mixed with choline, but will probably blow your mind on its own... I had mild side effects, like a slight headache and it was slightly harder to get to sleep, but even with a couple temazepams the lucid dreams were still there... 100% recommend.
Galantamine lucid dreams

I don't remember any names, but their appearance, clothing, voice etc.. Were always the same... I can't say I've ever met them before in any other dreams before that though, and haven't since, I'd sure like to though... I've tried kind of willing them back or something while I'm falling asleep, even looking for them while lucid, but so far nothing.

I also find it ironic that your screen name is Lucid and you had this experience. That tells me your name could have been prophetic this whole time.
It's actually LuSiD... There's some reasons it's spelt that way... One was because I've been an avid lucid dreamer since I was a kid, and it definitely made me look at reality in a different way than most, waaay before I even knew what psychedelics were, but kind of the same effect.
Then I discovered lSD, and it was like becoming lucid in a dream, except it was in this waking reality...
So when I signed up here, I was playing with a lot of different things to become more lucid, both with dreams, and in reality... But LSD was really the one that woke me up.. So, I mixed 'lucid' with LSD... LuSiD is what came out of it... And the 9 at the end?... Well, that wasn't because there was already 8 other LuSiD's on here, there's a meaning to that as well... But that one is kinda secret
