Help Identifying
    #26552834 - 03/23/20 10:48 AM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Hey! So my wife and I stepped out the door and saw these gorgeous little ones growing on some old wood in the grass, they're beautiful, just curious to what species they are?!

Im willing to bet on Hypholoma.  But a gill shot will definitely help.

That's awesome,  we are happy to help you learn and starting with the mushrooms in your yard is a great way to learn the hobby. Once you have an identification I recommend you read the description of the type species in a field guide or on www.mushroomexpert.com it gives you the macro and micro characteristics of the mushroom, this way you learn how to recognize what terms like pruinose and adnate looks like for example. You never know when you will need to rely upon the knowledge you have gained. welcome to the shroomery :irishtoast:

edit: Here's a link for Hypholoma
Kuo, M. (2016, October). The genus Hypholoma. Retrieved from the MushroomExpert.Com Web site: http://www.mushroomexpert.com/hypholoma.html

:hi5: Thank you for that info! Yeah, this is our first real dip into learning wild species, we just moved to the Eugene/Corvallis area, rain is plentiful and everything is closed  nothing but time.

in my opinion,  mushroom hunting is one of the most therapeutic hobbies one can have. If you find something that you want to eat,  I recommend you wait for several people to chime in, especially Trusted identifiers here in shroomery,  another site I would post them on for confirmation is www.mushroomobserver.org ; Waiting for multiple people to give you an identification will reduce your chances of a misidentified species slipping through.

Another site I use quite a bit is www.Inaturalist.org but do not trust the AI (artificial intelligence) to get it right,  it's still be trained, but there are lots of knowledgeable people that are willing to help and a lot of professional researchers are on the site. Best of luck on your hunts, I'm looking forward to seeing more of your observations.
