[LOG] First time with grains - Albino A+

Hello,
This is my very first post here at the Shroomery, and since nobody knows me here I will start with a short introduction.
I am very new to mycology. I started using one of those kits because I wanted to play around with shrooms and I really enjoyed it. After that I escalated to the PF TEK and grew some B+.
Doing the PF was very interesting but I was a bit disappointed by the low yield. All I had was 22g of dried product after 2 flushes and then stopped producing fruits. Plus using the SGFC was nice for a while but I am tired of misting all days.
As of now I have decided to document all my experimentation, here is my first log:
Preparation: For this grow, I have decided to start playing with agar because I have a spore print and it seemed fun anyway.
So I cooked some BRF agar, build a SAB and poured 20 plates from my freshly PCed agar bottles.
My original plan is to germinate spores on a plate, make some grain jars, inoculate them, make an unmodified monotub and spawn to CVG.
I don't really want to use poo because I feel like it will smell in my house.
Selected variety is Albino A+.
25/02/2020 Dropping some spores in a plate. I did not use an inoculation loop, just took the print and tapped it a little bit above the plate. This was done in my SAB.
Some time after that, the spores germinated and I cut a little piece and transfer to a new plate.
The germination plate that I keep in my fridge for later use, it was contaminated (5'o clock) so I did try to salvage it. Seems okay now :

10/03/2020 I feel like my plate with the transfer is clean enough and decide to use it to inoculate.
Prepared some popcorn grain, with extra gypsum. Made 5 1 liter jars PCed for 90mins@15Psi. Jars have been inoculated in the evening when everything was cool.
I left the jars sitting with the agar piece on top of them for a few days, then when I saw myclium on some corn kernels, I gave them all a little shake.
24/03/2020 I feel the need to start a grow log so I decide to start this thread and take some pictures.
Here is a picture of my 5 jars:

I don't know what you think, but one of them look very suspicious to me. What the mycelium was growing much faster than the other ones, also looks more fluffy. Here is a closer picture of that jar:

I though this was cobweb, but I am unsure so I keep it for now.
They are now all back in my incubator sitting at 28°C (83°F).
I will keep this thread updated with my progress. So far, things seems a bit slow to me.

Did you drop the wedges of agar straight from the germ plate onto the grains? Mind as well just put the spores to grains at that point.

Also, with agar, we typically transfer the clean culture to another plate. Not just cut out the bad part. You move the contam around when you cut out, especially that close to the mush myc.

No no, you see I took the little triangle piece and transferred it into a clean plate. Then, let it grow on the clean plate and cute the inoculation wedges from the new one.
I just keep the germination plate because I though it could be nice to skip that phase if I need to start a new one. But anyway if it keeps getting contams I will toss it in the trash.
Edit: Here is an example with a new plate I prepared yesterday. Germination plate: (Also had to clean it before putting it back in the fridge)

And here is the new plate with the transfer. This is the one I will use to inoculate my jars, and I did exactly the same for the albinos:

Well, with all that said, I'd say you're looking good! 83 degrees is a little warm though; I'd bring the temps down a bit (anywhere from 68 to 78 degrees is fine).

First day of the month update:

My jars looks okay, except one of them which is colonizing very slow. But I can still see some growth every day.
I did remove the jar from the incubator because my room is already at 70°F and I have the impression that they colonize faster like that.

My jars stopped colonizing for the last week.
This is now almost 4 weeks after the inoculation. I gave them a good shake 2 days ago but they don't seems to recover now...
I think the issue was with my agar plate, it was not clean enough. I did cut a piece from something that looked nice to me but I was not a nice and perfect circle of mycelium as I can see after 2 transfers.

I think you might have some bacteria in the popcorn. Hence the spots that won't colonize. Give it time. It should come around.

Here we are :

I found that all my jar are 100% colonized this morning so I decided to break them apart and prepare some CVG.
I will use an unmodified monotub for this grow. I did add some tape on the sides of the tub because I want to avoid side pins. I know there is nothing wrong with them but I find them unaesthetic.
Right now I am waiting for everything to cool down.

Two weeks have passed since I inoculated. No signs of pinning...
This morning I woke up and found a weird white spot in the tub.

Well, a few hours later and it is already taking a green color , so I guess it is trichoderma.

I dunno it does kinda look like it's all through here. You can put a pile of salt on those bright white and green patches for now but this tub might be fucked

If you already had maturing pins I would say wait for the harvest but since it is early on enough I wouldn't risk your other tubs. Sorry dude

Well... this morning I saw the block "leaking" where I put the salt so I decided to just throw it away and bleach my tub.
I did cut it in pieces and noticed that the bottom layers where not even colonizing at all, it was just coco and grains.
I am wondering if this is not coming from the "suspicious jar", when I did spawn one of them, I could smell something different, not a really bad smell but still.
I also did fan the monotub at least once a day, maybe this was not a wise idea ? I was doing this because I always saw a lot of little droplets on the wall and the substrate. Maybe I should consider modifying my tub next time for extra air exchange.

No the fanning didn't cause the tub to go bad. That means your spawn wasn't clean. Droplets on the sub is what you want, not big drops or standing water. If you have a suspect jar throw it out or make a separate shoebox.

Well I guess the bacteria I thought turned out to either be bacteria or mold.
Oh well. Try again! We are rooting for you!
