To Be Or Not To Be?
    #26553249 - 03/23/20 02:42 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Expert opinions are very much appreciated.

Strain: PF Classic
inoculation: Sterile Grain Bag ( Results consistent with directions )

Where I deviated from outlined procedure in above link is at step 18 in outlined directions I then decided to add casing as indicated mix and then dispursed the contents of two of the kit supplied in link grain bags into the monotub pictured below.

Avg. temp around 85 degrees, mist with water twice daily.

Attached are the results.

Could anyone tell me if I can realistically fungal wonderment to sprout up?

( I truly appreciate any suggestions as to how this may be salvaged or if its time to call it a learning experience and start over, I'm aware of my deviations from standard protocol. )

Thanks again for assistance on this.

That sub mix looks a little to dry to me. It's just not creating
the luscious environment inside the tote that it should.

How much water did you use in your coir mix prep?

Casing is supposed to go in a thin layer on top of the colonized grain/coir/verm whatever you have.

It looks alright you did a great job leveling it out. If you can get coir I’d put a little top layer over it but not a big deal.

I do appreciate the help so thanks.

No coir was used. My thought process was that if in the sponsored vendors directions all that was needed for a completely bag contained mushroom grow that this might just work.

I'm looking into obtaining coir. Any particular strategy with the coir, simply just disperse on top and continue as usual?

Please see an updated and zoomed in picture

Is the general consensus this is still salvageable?

Not looking great.
Maybe a coir or vermiculite caseing layer would help. You can also use Seed starter like Jiffy mix. The substrate looks really dry.

It’s really hard to tell what’s going on from those pictures. It may be fine and just a little dry but to me it doesn’t look like it’s fully colonized, at least not by cube mycelium. Does the tub have a sweet smell?

The good thing is mycelium is pretty tough.

As long as it’s not moldy it can be salvaged.

But yeah with coir you just get it wet then sprinkle it on. Same with casing, jiffy 5050 works great right out of the bag.

Wet casing strategy implemented. Will post back with success or lack thereof

Thanks for all the advice.

After having added a top layer of vermiculite and consistent h2o spray throughout day. I'm starting to notice this through the vermiculite top layer. Please see attached. Good Sign? Suggestions?

Previous and continued help is way appreciated.
