fruit on my agar...got questions.

So, being new to utilizing agar, had a few questions... How long can I keep an agar plate around, and still have viable mycelium? I made the plates from a GT MS syringe, and the pics below are of a 2nd transfer. I think the mycelium looks good, but I've had these now for 5 weeks, and they are starting to fruit - what is the significance of this, and does that limit the usefulness of these plates?? I also have another couple of plates where the mycelium is reaching vertically prior to getting to the periphery of the plate...significance?
Many thanks!
Cheers.

They will start fruiting when they reach that complete colonization You can slow them down to a crawl by just refrigerating them. You don't need let plates colonize this much refrigerate before they get to the edges

Clone those pins!, But also remember that if you let them sporulate you will also have a sterile but tiny spore print in there to work with later. You can even get fancy and slip a square of sterile foil under the cap so you know your getting the spores rather than a sample of myc below when using them.
Have done before, 10/10 will do again.

Oh shit that’s a good idea!
Super sterile mini prints. Definitely trying that.
Op if you take all or even a small piece of the pin and put it on a new plate you’ll have a clean clone. And pins normally grow awesome aggressive myc.

Thanks for the input! I just plated a couple of those pins... Can someone answer my specific questions?

No it doesn't limit the usefulness of the plates
Make some transfers to some new plates and don't let those
Plates grow all the way to the outside edge
