Icing fungus ID
    #26552883 - 03/23/20 11:10 AM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Hey guys. I’m intrigued by this kinda gross looking fungus, does anyone recognize it?

I’m in southern MD and found this on a tree that had fallen downslope on a pretty steep hill, it looks like someone poured thick icing several different times in layers. I was tracking some animals so couldn’t stop long to move leaves and such and I haven’t had a chance to get back there so I hope these pictures are enough. Thanks for looking.

Could be an old Laetiporus

If it’s not a mushroom I grew I don’t have the slightest clue lol. I thought it just grew all nasty like that like some kind of inimical alien.

But looking up what you guys said I can definitely see how it once looked like those pretty things. Apparently good to eat too. I will go back to the area and try to find some nice ones. Thanks!

:whathesaid: Definitely either decayed Laetiporus or old berkeley polypore
(You can see where it was connected to the wood)
