Pinning and Water
    #2655233 - 05/09/04 01:04 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Hey guys. I just birthed this tupperware version of a PF cake a little bit ago and was wondering what gnots looks like. I've heard they're are the precursor to pinning, but i didn't see them on my last batch of cakes. I am, however, seeing more of a collection of the white fuzzy goodness on the surface, which are scattered about and round in shape. I was wondering if these are gnots.

Also I was just curious if i can use the same water with dunking two cakes. It seemed like the first cake, though i dunked for 24 hours, didn't absorb nearly any of it, so i put a second cake which hasn't been doing anything in there again. (I only dunked the second one for a few hours first time). Thanks guys. :mushroom2:

Once you birth a cake it will begin to get a little fluffier in the first couple of days. If the cake was good and colonized all the way through then there are scarce nutrients left for the myc to consume so it will sometimes make an attempt to reach out for alternative food souces. This will look like knots at first ,but it will then start to look like fingers ,which is rhizomorphic growth. It is unlikely that it is getting knots unless you left them in the jar too long and started invitro. Usually IME it takes at least three or four days to see any knots forming.
