Volunteers needed to get tested for antibodies
https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/nih-begins-study-quantify-undetected-cases-coronavirus-infection
Quote:
A new study has begun recruiting at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, to determine how many adults in the United States without a confirmed history of infection with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), have antibodies to the virus. The presence of antibodies in the blood indicates a prior infection. In this “serosurvey,” researchers will collect and analyze blood samples from as many as 10,000 volunteers to provide critical data for epidemiological models. The results will help illuminate the extent to which the novel coronavirus has spread undetected in the United States and provide insights into which communities and populations are most affected.
Healthy volunteers over the age of 18 from anywhere in the United States can participate and will be asked to consent to enrollment over the telephone. Individuals with a confirmed history of COVID-19 or current symptoms consistent with COVID-19 are not eligible to participate.
After enrollment, study participants will attend a virtual clinic visit, complete a health assessment questionnaire and provide basic demographic information—including race, ethnicity, sex, age and occupation—before submitting samples in one of two ways. Participants working at the NIH Bethesda campus will have blood drawn at the NIH Clinical Center. Other volunteers will participate in at-home blood sampling. Neoteryx, a medical device firm based in Torrance, California, will supply at-home blood collection kits. Researchers will ship each study participant a Mitra®Home Blood Collection Kit and provide detailed instructions on collecting a microsample of blood and mailing it back for future analysis in the laboratory.
People interested in joining this study should contact clinicalstudiesunit@nih.gov . For more information on this study, please visit ClinicalTrials.gov using identifier NCT04334954. For more information on the U.S. government response to the COVID-19 pandemic, visit www.coronavirus.gov.

hope the dude wasnt infected because if he was, so is everyone on that bus, now. The city should furlough 9 of those 10 cops and use the money saved to distribute masks to people in public who dont have one. much more effective than wresting matches in the street

There is no paper or fabric mask that will protect you from a virus floating around in the air . Wearing a mask can be a source of infection for most people I see using them . Almost everyone is walking around the grocery store touching everything and adjusting their mask . Or taking their mask off outside at their car , with their contaminated hands that they never put gloves on . PPE requires training , masks require fit tests , I won’t allow an employee to use a paper mask to protect themselves from dust , that’s how useless an m95 is .

The mask isn't to protect you, it's to protect me from your spit spray. Obviously a 2.5 micron filter won't stop an aerosolized virus smaller than that, but it will soak up and block droplets that are bigger and contain virus. It isn't rocket science. Would it be better if folks had a better understanding of how to use the shit and the resources to have a little stockpile? Sure. It would be even better if everyone had p100 full face respirators, but they don't so we make the best of what we have.

How am I going to spit on you when I’m standing 6 feet away from you trying not to talk to anyone ? I would say 90% of people I see wearing a mask have a big gap around your nose their nose and chin . That’s not doing anything for any . If govt agencies are going to mandate we all wear masks to go fight over toilet paper then they need to start sending us all masks in the mail that work .

On a city bus? With 5 cops dragging you by the arms and legs while you kick and scream?

I have a full face respirator and half face respirator that use p100 filters . It’s such a losing battle though . Let’s say I wear one to go out on the bus or anywhere and the infection rate is really high where I live . Almost no one else has these , they have masks that don’t fit , I can see down into them . They are coughing and shit and I think to myself , good thing I got p100 , 3m says it might work . They aren’t sure but that as good as it’s gunna get . Now my filters are contaminated . I have to throw them away . I only have 2 sets left and new ones are $ 100 on amazon and I can’t get them from work because the govt says I’m not essential .

Wipe the thing down with Iso. If your're worried about the carts themselves, pop the covers off, spray with Iso and let dry

Yep. Its all futile. No one is doing anything correctly it's as useful as doing nothing at all.

All I’m saying is the govt shouldn’t be mandating shit like this . Some guy cussed my dad out and threatened him because he had a mask on that said m95 . He said he was supposed to donate it to a hospital . Wearing gloves and not touching your face is a great idea . If your going to wear a mask that fits well it will be uncomfortable and annoying . The desire to adjust it will be overwhelming . Touching it is really bad idea but that’s what I see everyone doing . Yes using ppe improperly can be worse than not using it . That my problem with the govt mandate . I’m also saying the govt should be suppling any ppe device they require us to wear . That’s what they force our employers to do . They should be making sure everyone is wearing a mask by giving them masks not beating them up .

That guys a fuckin moron as if the hospital wants some unsterile used n95 mask from some random dude
these are definitely futile attemps though at least 90% of the people don't know what the fuck they are doing, maybe even 99%. At the shoppers drug mart down the street from me every cashier has gloves and a mask on, but they are handling cash and shit then handling the next customers items to bag them. They don't switch gloves every customer. They don't even try to clean their gloves between customers. It's a waste of time. . I also saw a dude at the grocery store yesterday with a respirator on but the fit was so bad there was gaps around the whole fucking thing. Useless.

You know that n95 masks can be autoclaved, right? That's like, literally one of the requirements for a mask to be rated n95.

Never heard that before. Got a source. They're trying to find ways to clean/sterilize them for reuse.

I think this is what people are worried about. Once you let the govt into this type of info, there is no shutting the door.
It's more than a little reminiscent of when they were trying to convince us that the Patriot Act was a good thing
I'm not even claiming that they can't/don't already track us thru our phones but I do think there should be another way to contain this such as staying home when possible and everyone wearing a mask around other people in public
Edit: sorry, thought I was replying to the last post but it was the last post on the previous page so I'm a little behind

I agree, mass surveillance is a serious issue.
With half a million people now infected I doubt it'd even be useful? Maybe in some states.
Most state borders are closed here, I see that's an issue to even try that over there.
There aren't a lot of options other than slowing peoples movements until a vaccine is found
