Thats the drawback to largely mitigating infectious disease mortality.  People live long enough to develop chronic disease.

Kryptos said:
As I argued earlier, and while Enlil has doubted my interpretation, he has not adequately explained why my interpretation is incorrect:

There is no federal law that says presidents must be elected by popular vote at the state level, only that states need to send in their elector counts. How the states decide who their electors vote for is up to the states. Now, in modern history, states have held elections based on a popular vote. Some states have laws on the books or state constitutions that require popular votes, but not all.

Right now, some 26 states with a combined total of 219 electoral votes have either republican legislature/governors, or republican supermajorities in the legislature. This means that those states can (a) change laws requiring a popular vote and (b) pass laws that simply assign their state electors to trumpy along party lines.

So while the federal election is not being affected, technically, certain states simply...decide to not hold votes, and to put their electors on Trump.

Next, given the EC, a presidential candidate can win with something like a minimum of 43% of the countrywide vote. Of course if we were to assume absolute extremes, such as literally zero Trump voters in Cali, that could be more extreme, but the 43% is assuming reasonable margins.

The current EC alone can basically let trumpy have the presidency with low 40% of the vote, and add in the possibility of cancelling elections at the state level, and there are technically ways that he could win with even less than 40% of the vote.

Of course, Cancelling elections at the state level would really only fly in solid red states without public outcry, but then again, who cares about public outcry? This is a chance to install a president for life, and presidents for life don't have to deal with little things like unhappy people. They have the military for that.

They might postpone the election, but they won't have the election without some states voting, no matter what is legally possible. And there is a lot of division in the military about Trump.

But your right, the electoral college does allow for some bizarrely unbalanced results.

No, they can't postpone the election. Election happens on schedule.

A few states (again, I'm thinking Florida, Wisconsin) will cancel (not postpone) their elections, and give their electors to drumpy, which will likely put him over the edge in the EC.

Most states will vote, and most votes, once again, won't matter.

Well update in NY....from tuesday to wed. we saw the highest death count over 700 in 1 day! Its now over 6,000 from ny alone and today i expect it to be over 7,000 dead...However these people dying are people that have been in the hospital for a bit. The good news is the past 3 days shows the level of new people getting admitted to the hospital leveling off. its still the highest its been but not increasing as much each day so its sort of at a plateau. This makes sense because even tho social distancing was in place before but about 2 weeks ago is when people here started taking it more seriously. 90% of people wearing some sort of mask also stores only allowing a certain number of people in the store at the same time ect....

So bad news is more dead but again thats because people have been in the hospital for a while. Good news is the "curve" of admissions to hospitals has flattened. IF it stays this flat or goes down we wont need nearly as many ventilators as we thought. BUT that is only cause more people are wearing masks and social distancing being taken alot more seriously the past 2 weeks. Hopefully admissions will not only flatten but start to go down. But things still wont return to normal for a while if they do the numbers will rise again. The governor has a plan that WHEN its time to start opening stores and business back up it will happen gradually first will be young people that test negative. Then people that have already fought the virus off as they will have the anti bodies to keep it at bay. The absolute best case scenario i see is this STARTING in a month. I dont think even the young people that are negitive will start to go back to work for at least a month BEST case.

Isn't there a huge shortage of tests?

YES! Only testing if you have symptoms. Or living with someone who has symptoms. Fortunately this is starting to change a bit the test is now quicker than it originally was and they are doing more of them. NY state alone has tested more per capita than china or south korea.

What's with this bullshit lie that cash is dangerous now? Science has already shown us the virus survives longer on hard, smooth surfaces. So that means the virus is much more likely to be on the debit machine that everyone is typing their pin number on than it is to be on the cash you exchange.

Clearly they are exploiting this to usher in their digital age bullshit. I refuse to stop using cash, ever. Fuck this robot obsessed society.

With you 100% on using cash as it fosters a completed transaction the quickest. The whole VISA /MASTERCARD is "quicker than cash"; total bullshit. How many prompts and buttons are there to press, including your PIN number? Lets get that oily shit all over our hands from the pin terminal.

Did get alot of white powdery shit on my 1980's bills, though.

Two separate groups doing genetic analysis of the outbreak in NY have determined that the Europe was the source of a huge majority of cases in that state, and the spread started in mid-February. Trump sat on his ass thinking shutting down travel from China would solve the problem, while he let thousands of infected people in from Europe for a month before doing anything about it. Such an absolute failure.

Seriously though, maybe it was because of those dirty Sicilians.

Did any politicians call for an early ban on European travel?

Who cares. He’s the president. It’s his job. He controls the borders. All you do is make excuses for failure. The situation in Italy was out of control by the beginning of March and he didn’t do a fucking thing for two weeks except make the worst predictions in American history about how cases were about to go down to zero.

Well, that's the issue Koods is going to have to realize at a certain point. Trump isn't going to be held responsible for this current mess. People aren't going to blame him for things that were mostly out of his hands.
