When Aus asked for an investigation into the origins of covid China responded with trade sanction after trade sanction, it's up to the tune of $20 billion at the moment, goods like barley, wine, beef, cotton, timber, lobsters, sugar, copper ore and thermal coal have all been halted due to various bullshit 'concerns'. Funny how they never seem to find any 'concerns' with our coking coal or iron ore though??
Thankfully the current U.S. administration isn't as belligerent with it's allies as the previous one and has offered some muscle to the trade punch-up. The US will not grant China any improvement in relations until Beijing stops its economic coercion of Australia, a senior White House official said.
Our current P.M. Scott Morrison also known cynically as Scotty from Marketing or affectionately as Sco-Mo got on the phone to Joe recently and asked if the U.S. could help 'kick some Chinese ass'

That’s the kind of rayciss rhetoric dog whistling that had lead to the surge in anti-Asian hate crimes under the Biden administration.

The trade conflict isn't imagined and Trump's schoolyard negotiation skills didn't help one bit. Australia is still being targeted for asking for a simple investigation into how covid-19 originated, to the tune of $20 billion, that's the guts of my post. The 'kickin ass' comment is aimed squarely at U.S. culture, if it makes you feel like you want to bash Asians that's your problem not mine.

I can't remember the exact figure but 30 something states just released new infection figures with the 7 day average being higher than the 15 day average, which is a bad sign.

I'm guessing that people heard we should all be vaccinated by the end of the summer and figured that it was fine.
Either that, or the priority 65+ group decided that they were vaccinated, and it's time they became the priority. Again.

We should not open any thing up yet covid is still dropping people like flys an is only going to get worse. Especially these states opening up they will get hit really hard by out breaks. We should wait at least 2 years to open any thing up.

Papua New Guinea is our closest neighbour and is about to loose control of the virus with case numbers tripling in the last month. The islands in the Torres Straight are close enough for small boats to easily skip between, as well as light planes full of cocaine so the state government here is fairly concerned about the risk of the virus entering through that point. Aus has sent a team of healthcare workers and 8000 doses of vaccine to jab PNG frontline healthcare workers as like many other countries the virus is infecting Drs and nurses at an alarming rate. PNG is simply not able to deal with this and unless we(the rest of the world) help under developed nations deal with the virus it will keep coming back.

Everyone has had a crack at raping PNG... BHP fucked the Fly River when it's tailings dam failed. Their government is corrupt as well as backwards and if Aus doesn't help out we can expect more covid variants which doesn't help anyone.

I read it as this, mostly.
More climate change = more disease.

I'm not sure why one would single out exxon for climate change. I think it's pretty clear by now that every modern convenience we all enjoy, including the internet we're posting on, is contributing to climate change.

I was flippantly implying that PNG would have more resources to deal with covid if it was profitable to the petroleum industry that’s taken over PNG and rough roughshod over the will of the people.

Exxon's internal scientists raised the alarm about fossil fuel burning leading to catastrophic global warming. Exxon did everything they could to prevent those studies from becoming public and has been one of, if not the single largest financial backers of climate denial organizations, not to mention their anti-emission limiting lobbying.
They're hardly the only company to put their personal profits over global economic damage and loss of life, but they're absolutely noteworthy for their aggressive denial campaign
