Electric PC for making agar

I have a presto PC but I lost one of my weights and it would be awesome to just use my electric one. I read other people used electric PC for agar. Thoughts on that?

I’ve used one, most of them only go up to about 10 psi but I would just run it for 45 mins and it always came out fine.

Are you referencing an autoclave? AKA sterilizer?
The one on the left, that shouldn’t be on the stove

No it’s pretty much an instapot. I can’t find one of my weights for the jiggler and I could tape quarters to it but I don’t feel comfortable with that. I personally don’t like pressure cooking inside my house to begin with.

I mean obviously I use my presto. I could just weigh a weight for the jiggler, and then weigh some coins to replace my lost weight.

You will. Give it time. You’ll realize the nuances of your PC. They made me nervous at first, too.
I wouldn’t recommend an instapot for anything mycology related, except for BRF cakes.

My last PC run I taped some pennys to my 15 psi weight (trying to reduce contamination as much as possible) and was nervous as fuck; shit vented once in like 20 minutes (and when it did vent, it was LOUD AS FUCK and vented for like eight to tens seconds) lol I took a few pennys off (I ended up with three still taped on), restarted my cycle, and it went much better. It weighed 97 grams before I added the coins; with the three pennys, it weighs about 104 grams.

That is scary as hell actually, PCs can explode if they cant vent.

if youre scared, try reading the pc instructions/ info. that should make everything clear for ya. maybe try a canning book as well. they can definitely explode and cause catastrophic damage but only from neglect and improper use

Yeah don't go putting pennies on your regulator weights if your PC doesn't have a pressure gauge on it. And read the fucking manual like Ted said.

I read the manual years ago (doesn't tell you much, really) lol it's not like I didn't have an eye on it or anything, plus my cooker has a safety on it in case the pressure gets too high. It's good with three pennies, though; the pressure's more consistent than without them.
But you guys are right, I should've been more smart lol Learned my lesson

If the overpressure plug pops, you’re in for a really bad time. It sounds like a gun going off and your house will be filled with steam and everything in the PC will be ruined.

So the jiggler for my PC is three parts. The base, and two circle weights. I lost one of the circle weights. Say if I weigh one of the circle weights, and weight the same amount in coins and tape them... would that be safe? I’m not sure how I should approach this issue.
I have some beautiful agar ready for transfer, and my state is on lockdown.

I have this other jiggler, it’s for a different PC though. Doesn’t sound like something I’d like to do but idk, figured I’d ask. Goes up to 15LBS

His did vent. Also dude was supposed to turn it down to maintain pressure

You don't need a gauge.

It's just as consistent without added weight. If you don't add weight run your cooker at 14.9999 psi the weight wont jiggle. If you add weight you can run at 15+ psi without it making noise until you hit the psi the weight jiggles. The pressure cooker really never should be making a racket, but knowing how many people don't understand what the fuck they're doing i made my tek worded as quiet down your PC since people seem to universally run their cooker wrong.

I edited one of my posts. I have this other jiggler that is designed (ALBEIT FOR A DIFFERENT PC,) for 15PSI. Could I use this as my jiggler? What would you guys suggest I do, I can’t get anything else as my state is shut down and all I want to do is grow mushrooms for a month.

Hmm. Depends on the vent. I'd measure the vent, if they're comparable then it MIGHT work, but really the risk is up to you. If you live in a city your neighbors won't be too happy when they hear what sounds like a gunshot goes off in your kitchen.
IMO steam pressure is a technology which is to be respected, not fucked around with. I would rather just use the 10 PSI for 3 hours than risk 15 PSI blowing the valve.
