Time to Harvest? * 1
    #26519815 - 03/05/20 11:59 PM (3 years, 11 months ago)

This is the first time I am growing shrooms, so I really don't know when to harvest as I have never harvested.

It's been 9 days since the first pins have appeared. And this is Cambodia cubensis. Is it time to harvest now, or am I too late, or should I wait couple more days?

Good job  your substrate looks wet try not Misting so much.
A few of the bigger ones look ready to harvest, once the veil breaks or just before is a good time to pick em

Thank you! But I can't tell if the veil is already broken or is about to break. Do you think should I harvest them all tonight? Do you see any shrooms with broken veils in the pictures?

Well I know it looks different than Cambodian, but I surely bought Cambodian grow kit. Any ideas on why it looks like Penis Envy variety rather than Cambodian?

Yeah looks like a PE variety rather than Cambodian.
From what Ive read about PE you should harvest when caps get the white ring Or gills darken or the caps lighten up in color.

Maybe wait a one more day then harvest all together to be sure

That's verticulum. A mutating fungus that can infect other fungus. Safe to eat, but it's likely why they look the way they do. I'd harvest all. They are pretty much just putting on water weight at this point.

Still a nice first time grow :highfive:

I want to harvest'em all too! So you're telling me to harvest them all at once and now is the time?

Can someone please tell me if the fucking veils are broken or not?

They are on the larger ones. It's hard to see them due to the deformity. You can see the remnants on the stem just under the cap.. the white ridge that goes all the way around it. Looks like they are breaking totally right when the cap starts to open. Normal for vert. If they weren't infected the veil would stretch more and be easier to see.

oops.. and yes. Harvest all. Cubensis only takes on water after about 20-40% of fruit growth.

UPDATE:

I harvested the first flush of Cambodian cubensis. First dried them on a paper towel for 3 days, and fan dried them for 1 day, and then build a drying chamber with baked epsom salt as a desiccant (my drying chamber in the pic). It took that long because I was reading about the best drying process. I might buy food dehydrator in near future. This is my first ever flush! It's around 1/4 oz. The amount is very little when the first flush is considered right? And what do you think how do they look?

Good job man they look like shrooms.

The total weight is usually based off how much spawn you used.

Normally people shoot for at least an ounce dry for every quart of spawn.

Thank you so much man! You actually made my day :sun: It's just a growbag of 425 grams (0.45 quarts) rye berries.

Do you mean that people shoot for at least 1 ounce in the first flush?

I know that the first yield is almost half of what it should be, because my growing conditions were not perfect, thanks to the growbag manual. And thanks to shroomery community, I am improving everyday!

UPDATE

After the first flush, I watered the box and let it sit for 12 hours. Then I put the box in the bag with holes as seen in the picture and started misting 3 times a day. Couple days later, I realized that the box is waterlogged and I thought it was okay! But after reading about it, I decided to drain the excess water but never stopped misting. Couple days later, the box was half waterlogged again, and I drained it too.

The question is: Today is 14th day after I put the cake in the fruiting conditions, but I still can't see any pins unfortunately. Do you think I will see pins soon, or did I damage the substrate? And am I misting too much? I really would love to see the pins for the second flush. Please help me out

drain and leave the lid completely off for the rest of this particular mycellium, and stop misting completely.  You won't get many more flushes, so by doing this, you are milking the rest of the substrate for all it's worth while you still can!

If you can see gills, the veil has broken.

What? Seriously should I stop misting completely? But isn't the evaporation on the surface the most critical pinning trigger? I am completely lost now. Please hand me the helping hands!

Misting is only necessary when the substrate is dry. When you shine a light on the substrate and it is not glistening with little droplets on the surface then mist. Common mistake new growers make is they cant stop fucking with the substrate and get it too wet.

So I should not stop misting at all, misting gently so that the waterlog in the box doesn't appear again?

Here is what RR said about this issue. So I won't stop misting.

Hopefully, 5 days of no misting doesn't abort all your work.  You're supposed to continue misting to replace the moisture which has evaporated.  If the substrate dries out, your fruits are all going to abort. This has been posted and re-posted by trusted cultivators thousands of times.
RR

The biggest question is that will I ever get that 2nd flush? Or did the waterlog damage the subsrate, so I can't get any more flushes?
