This is so wrong. It aired the other night on the ABC.
The footage is fairly confronting.

Eh, it's just a little war crimes, nothing serious.
Good thing that the ICC only applies to the other guys!

I'd be hopeful that guy will be tried for murder, the Australian Federal Police are investigating.
There's been a long running enquiry into the S.A.S. in Afghanistan and 55 incidents!! are being investigated.
This is another one. This hero allegedly kicked an innocent, handcuffed man off a cliff. He's also been accused of another execution as well.

More like the government will target the press/whistle blowers to stop these things going public.
If you feel like going down a rabbit hole this article has some good links on the government fuckery. The video with Senator Rex Patrick is worth watching.
The AFP raided both the ABC and a News Corp journalist over information they had regarding the Aus Signals Directorate(the spooks) spying on the public.
But it all leads back to the S.A.S being fingered as murderers, and they aren't happy about it.

Looks like they found evidence of 39 murders.
-------------------- I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them. I also attack my side if I think they're wrong. People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

Interesting video, though I'll admit it feeds into my own pre-existing bias that most 'war heroes' are just psychopaths. This has always been the case I think, from what I've heard none of my family in ww2 or even 1 felt the least bit good about what they achieved. It is encouraging when people come forward about it though

Plenty of blame to go around; IMO government(s) should get the majority of it.

well yes, we should hate the people at the top far more than their stooges, though it in no way absolves individuals imo.

Is there such thing as a just war? Has there ever been a nation/ country/ group of peoples/ of any significance, that has not had a standing army?

I think there is such thing as a just war, although the necessity for any war imo is a symptom of deeper injustice, even if the war is totally justifiable. I think its far easier to decide in retrospect though, once the swell of propaganda dies down somewhat.
I don't think any nation or state has lasted long without an army, I know the Indonesian communists were so easy to sabotage and genocide mostly because they lacked a strong military branch and were more pacifistic than say Maoists or Soviets. As far as I know, once standing armies became common they were a necessity.
There is however a big difference between having an army used in defense of ones citizens, than in having an army used to enforce empire.

War is easier to look at in retrospect; which makes war more difficult while it occurs in real world time (like fog of war)..thats the purpose of the military to have some order in chaos. Add uniformity and there you go.
How the military is used is a big deal, as you pointed out. Did we have to drop the bomb in WW2? Or were we itching to use some new tech? As long as there are nations....and doses of nationalism, war will foment.
I will admit, its hard to separate the war from the warrior sometimes, but politicians(the same ones that wont vote for or against a war) and military commanders should held to the highest standard(and of course, they are not).

pretty much agree, but I still think a successful killer is a failed person. That goes for politicians even more so

From 36 incidents China hasn't let this go unnoticed either, and really what can Australia say. Murder wasn't something the Australian public expected but in hindsight that thinking was naive, stupid and disconnected from reality. Angus Taylor summed it up 'It diminishes us all"

The soldier at the centre of this story Ben Roberts-Smith is suing the Nine Entertainment Co for defamation over their claims he was party to six unlawful killings including kicking a handcuffed prisoner over a cliff and then ordering another soldier to shoot him.
I'd hate to get him angry, he's the toughest mo-fo I've seen in a long time but that isn't stopping 21 S.A.S. colleagues from testifying against him.
Apparently some are still serving and will be giving evidence via video link from Afghanistan but it's unlikely we'll get to see much of the hearing as once again that testimony will be another secret squirrel closed court. I think his father is a lawyer too jus sayin.

straight up. It is the governmental or non state actors which put these patriots/terrorists (it's YOUR opinion, man) in situations of power under usually false or exaggerated pretenses in the first place.
I remember when Obama traded that AWOL dickhead Bowe Bergdahl piece of shit traitor for 5 Taliban VIPs. and we lost another American going after him I think Fuck all that.
Also fuck Trump, he wouldn't have pissed on anyone in our armed forces to save their soul. Certified POS.
That SEAL he let go should have been strung up and shot down if the reports I read are accurate, not to mention those Blackwater mental case cunt bags.
I could make better decisions than these guys and that's not saying much.
