Not sure if you’ve got an aversion to it, but if it is available to you, amazon sells a 10lb bag of rye berries for 10 or 15 bucks. Very clean. I’ve had success. Dallesandro or something? Little pricey, but 30lbs has seen me through three grows with some to spare (a few mono tubs and a ton of shoeboxes.)

Not available in any local store.
Milo is also treated just like WBS.

I've used those rye berries a bunch of times, they're super clean and work really well.
Wheat and oats are solid choices and I've heard safflower seed is good too. I tend to prefer grain without hulls on them. Organic wheat is ridiculous cheap so that's my go-to.

Wheat or barley is fine to use. I have mostly used wheat because it's cheap and easy to buy where I am. I buy mine from a pet shop. I have also used barley a few times when a shop I went to didn't have any wheat.

I'm probably gonna go with wheat, it looks like oats are also an option but it seems a lot of folks have trouble with bacteria when they use oats.

I have to say WBS seems to take longer to recover after the shake than oats.

I’d like to see the research on that statement. While I’ve never used oats, I’ve used plenty of grains, and they all seem to do the same after the shake. I’m guessing it maybe a genetic thing.

Never had a problem with sunflowers seeds. If you want to remove them, they tend to float in (at least hot) soak water. You can dip a strainer or colander over the top of your pot and remove 90% of them in a minute if you care.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

I find wheat is easier to shake up than wbs. It's harder to shake apart the smaller grains like millet when the mycelium has colonised them.
I've seen some criticism of wheat being gluggy and glue like because of the higher gluten content but I don't have issues with it. Just don't overcook it.

Oats should be PC’d for 2 hours at 15-18 psi to have very minimal contamination.

I've never used oats. Numerous other grains but never oats.
