Doing good so far. They are hard to shake at 30% remind me of oats when the oats are overcooked. I did a batch of Blackoil Seed and used WBS as the master in a gtg for 9 qarts. They colonized alot faster then the wedge ones. They are almost 70% after 1 week.

Awesome! How did you soak them? or prep I should say. Maybe boil water, then turn off, then dump in the seeds and let soak in cooling down boiled water for 10 min or so, then dry out? I was thinking of trying this. I think the real test will be to see how they do with substrate?

I need to finish my Grain Guide in my journal.
Ok I did a few ways. The one I like the most is. Bring PC to rolling boil with the lid on but not locked. Leave heat on and dump in grains and boil for 10-15 minuets. I usually put the lid back on the PC and leave the weight off. In my presto I will let it build up enough pressure till the lock almost engages and then I cut the heat. Then strain and lay out to steam evaporate for 30 minutes. I will lay all my grains out on a towel and keep them no more than an inch thick. When they stop steaming I load em in jars and PC.

How do you think they will do with substrate? I am curious- even if myc colonizes on lets say..black bird seed, will it colonize even if that choice of medium has no nutes? For example, the myc fully colonizes a jar of medium with no nutes, then when you put to substrate will it stall because of lack of energy? Or is it safe to assume if the myc is spreading, that means it is eating.
Does that make sense?

how does myc act on agar when we lower the nutes

I don't know. I have only used single recipe for my agar. I would assume it would stall or not do anything

my bad, I was leading
It seems to promote rhizo growth, kinda forcing the culture to "search" for food instead of staying put
I am not saying that translates 100% to how it would act in the scenario you proposed. I was just adding my thought to the conversation, I could've stated that better
I think the "standard" recipe we use is the lower nute recipe

Oh no worries dude! It would suck experimenting with a grain medium and seeing it colonize then when put to fruiting, it won't do nothing.
Trying to identify if the myc is happy with its medium than to not trick your ass into fruiting and it stalls haha

I don't think stalling comes From low nutrients. I think stalling is a lack of response to environmental changes. If you have a nutrient dense cake it will take longer to fruit because the mycelium is chowing down on the media. So if this thing starts pinning invritro before colonization is completed I would guess it would be because of a contaminate or low nutrients.

I have a few jars that look exactly like that. Same sunflower seeds, same streaks of uncolonization. But mine have been that way for a month or so. No high hopes, doing plenty of other stuff, just watching them.

It from a G2g but yeah the Mycelium move slow on sunflower. High oil content. Why run for nutrients when you can sit and digest fats.

Black oil Sunflower seeds. I will post a different picture from a wedge. It looks very aggressive from a wedge.

I separated them from wbs, intending to toss them, but said wtf and had a separate batch. Some are pinning, some are still colonizing jars. Plate was iffy too, anyway... Science!
