Democratization of the workplace
    #26546567 - 03/20/20 12:19 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Today, in America, we are faced with a multitude of issues, which cannot be addressed by the current way we structure society, and our economy. There are a variety of problems, for which many of us believe the blame falls squarely on the shoulders of corporate America, and their weighted influence in our political process.

I have proposed a solution to the problem of a callous corporate America, and their insatiable greed many times around here, and I am curious to know if there are any dissenters, and why?

It seems to me that democratizing the workplace, by any means (Worker Councils, cooperatives, etc), would have a very beneficial impact on things like stagnant wages, the wealth gap, ecological concerns of workers (You don't shit where you eat), the legitimacy of our democratic process, and the economy as a whole.

Workers should have a direct, or indirect say in how a business operates, as they are the backbone of any business. Workers belong behind those closed doors, when layoff season comes around, and when Christmas bonuses are being dolled out.

It also seems to me that it is important to practice democracy in the day to day, so that we all better understand what it takes to make a democracy work.

I certainly agree.

But only a Bernie style president would even have a remote chance of making it happen.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

It's an interesting idea.

It won't ever happen, but it's a fun thought experiment.

Getting rid of obscene ceo bonuses would be a place to start.

It is not a bad idea, but the  possiblity of the workers councils becoming corrupt themselves (like unions) is high. Telling a  shareholder that the corporation now must now give up money and authority to an independent authority....would never fly.

Is it possible to fix corporations and banks from within? There is a whole new generation that could infiltrate/ change business as usual....thats a long shot, but more probable IMO.

I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

It's a good idea, but I don't see it happening much here. They don't want to give the workers more money, but if they have to they would much rather give them more pay than give up control.

No. Corporations are designed to filter the people with the most flexible morality to the top. It's profitable.
