Anyway, i came to find this...
This looks bad to me but looking close up it has "hair like spiky" edges. Def has me uncertain as its so hard to tell when i dont see trich everyday but doesnt look like typical myc.
Again, it has that bright white color, creamy look but with spikey fibers unlike the pic which is not sharp and lacks the definition to really show it.
Ill try to get another pic.
Im 90% sure this is trich or perhaps something just as gnarly but im an optimist and a procrastinator so i need validation this is trich so i can toss this sob within next 15 mins.
How long does trich take to dump spores?
This is Now

Yeah that would be it.
Usually goes green pretty quickly, i check my stuff a lot and half the time it’s already green when I first see it so can’t be more than 8-12 hours.

I took that second pic yesterday about this time so its been about 24 hours.
While im here, bleach this tub? Flamethrower? What works best?
If it hasnt sporulated do i need to worry about room contamination or just remove the tub to outside and blast it?

Whether it sporulates or not, wiping down with bleach and air drying will do the trick.

Just dump it out and clean the tub with soap and wate. Those spores came from your area so a few more isn't really a big deal. They are all around all the time.

I removed it from the room. I guess only one way to know if its infected my entire area.
Last time i saw trich was like 2012 and that was green at first site. Didnt affect further operations because i put a trash bag over the entire tub and threw it in a dumpster. Never opened the lid.
Final note: dumped it out back. Thing was fully colonized and looked good from the bottom up. I chopped it up and looked fine.
Few things i think happened.
A. Trying the unmodified tub. Flipped the lid before full colonization and the trich made its way in via air current while the sub was vulnerable.
B. I had trich on me and infected the tub during a mist or surface check etc at some point within past 36-48 hours.
C. My room is not clean enough for unmodified tubs with flipped lids for fruting conditions before full colonization..
D. Only thing i did different this time was use a new Vermiculite. What's funny and ironic is when i brought the verm home i noticed a logo on the bag that said "Stay Green Promise" and i thought to myself . Umm mo thanks lol

So it didn't turn green in the predicted time? And when you dumped it, everything looked fully colonized and all good?
Those aren't hyphal knots in the original picture?

I didnt give it a chance to go green.
I dont really care if i had to toss it. That growth was rapid over a period of 24h. It didnt look right. Didnt look like knots to me. I dont think knots have spikey hair edges theyre more smooth, not as glossy and dont clump up so densely.
What im trying to search now it what trich myc looks like magnified.
What i could see with my naked eye was hair like spikes on the edges of it.
All the pics ive seen it looked pastey/creamy which i have always found synonymous with smooth edges like a puddle of wood glue not spikey.
The spawn was from agar to oats.
I have 4 more unmodified tubs going behind the one i tossed which was before these 4 which were all done with agar wedge inoculated Lc.
Keeping these 4 lid right side on and not adjusting it until i it a full 10-12 days to colonize.
The trich tub was left lid upside down from spawn as per advice found in the unmod tub tek and i kept fucking with it.
Probably crossed my wires being used to traditional monos... because most the time i was sittin there looking at the tub confused like "am i really letting an uncolonized tub sit with a lid upside down and without holes stuffed with poly.. lol it feels so unatural.

I leave partially colonized shoeboxes with no lid on all the time.
If you use coir it’s probably coming in with the spawn.

It was in the LC is my guess. You can bleach the tub and when it's dry crack the lid and throw a plate in with the lid off for a couple of minuets. See if the tub stays clean.

The trich tub was agar wedge spawn. The 4 newer ones after it are done with lc tested clean on agar.
Sweet idea regarding the plate though.
Well I cleaned the tub with bleach cleaner sun dried it and then sprayed with alcohol prior to reusing it.
I spawned 6qt of clean millet without verm to the cleaned tub and pulled an unused new tub out of its box and spawned 6qt millet to that with a verm/coir sub.
The trich tub was spawned with 5 good looking & smelling oat quarts made from agar wedges.
Im going to leave the lids on unlatched despite it driving me crazy thinking stale air is in there. I did however clip off the corners of the lid gaskets on 3 tubs to leave some sort of GE outlet. The 4th tub i left unmodded to compare how it does.
Im going to do one tub tomorrow with 6qts of oats and leave its lid flipped but im not going to disturb it for the entire time and see what happens.
