Mycelium in syringe... on purpose?

I remember inspecting my syringes when they were delivered a couple weeks ago and noticed white stuff floating around. I thought it was normal, being my first time and all. Decided to hit that up in the search and discovered it's actually mycelium and the spores germinated in the syringe. I attribute that to my super fast colonization times (compared to others' experiences I've read here). I'm just wondering, for when I make my own syringes if it's possible to do it on purpose? Or is it just luck? Tried searching, but....

Inoculating with spores isn't really a great long term strategy as far as contamination is concerned. You could try sterilizing a water, corn syrup mix in the syringe. Mixing it with spores, drawing back to the syringe and letting it colonize. There wouldn't be much gas exchange though. Better yet, get some agar and inoculate it with spores. Transfer once and inoculate grain with the wedges.

To answe your question, you could just let it germinate in the syringe. I don't know exactly what triggers it, as the only logic seems to be is to let it sit and germinate itself. How old were the syringes you had that contained the myc growth in it?

Spores in a clean syringe won’t germinate. You probably have a bacterial syringe.

I want to get into agar, but no pressure cooker... yet... Not sure how old the syringes were before they were sent to me, but I noticed first day I got them. All 3 of them have wisps of mycelium. I wonder if maybe the vendor sent some lc(li?)... My jars are coming along nicely. First batch done on the 9th, maybe a few more days until fully colonized. Looking very healthy, no obvious signs of contamination.

Here's a picture of one of the syringes. Golden Teacher variety.

Hope it's clear enough. Been in the fridge, so the outside is a little misty.

If it’s a LC it won’t be cubensis, at least not from a sponsor.

They're not from a sponsor. Got them from a local vendor. They had good reviews on their Facebook page that, I'd say, are legit. It's nearly time to fruit them, so time will tell. I'm feeling optimistic.

Yeah they wouldn’t send that on purpose.
Definitely myc at the bottom there, and like you said for sure sped things up for you.
Look into lcs or li it’s the same thing but on purpose and clean.
I’ve sterilized syringes and sucked up a bunch of myc from an lc, works great.
Just saw your last post, I’m sure it’ll never be an issue but technically those syringes are illegal once the spores germinate and they could get you for mail fraud/distribution/manufacturing.

I got mycelium syringes sent to me once and it was even a sponser here. I wasn't exactly happy about it. They went into awesome rhizo's two days after being dropped on agar and are the ones in my signature.

That’s scary, for everyone involved.
What is that third pic in your signature? Not cubes......I don’t think

Yes it was quite scary. They even put what I assume was some charcoal dust in it to make it look legit. But it clearly had myce all through it.
The third picture was my first attempt at some shiitake blocks. It was just some cheap genetics I acquired from some random website. Still got a little over 2 pounds of them off those blocks and a buddy and I stuffed and covered them with deer meat and cheese.

Weeks ago while searching this forum for tips for how to make syringes I remember RR saying something like it is better to use distilled water for syringes so that the spores won't germinate in the water. Maybe that happened cause the water that was used contained enough nutrients for the spores to germinate.
But I don't know why is it a bad thing.

I certainly won't be naming the vendor. I do recall seeing black specks which I assumed to be spores floating around when I first received them, but now all I see is mycelium. They probably germinated en route. As long as it's not bacterial, I'm happy.
A question though... anyone know how long these syringes will keep? Got one and a half left, keeping them wrapped in plastic in the fridge.

It looks like straight up liquid culture to me.
I've seen small amounts of mycelium in spore syringes but nothing like that.
