Sick at harvesting.. help
    #26545731 - 03/20/20 12:35 AM (3 years, 10 months ago)

So ya dude I have trouble harvesting I think. I have a hard time pulling out mushrooms that are ready while they’re next to a big cluster that are just forming.

Do I twist and pull and pull out a little substrate?

Do I cut as close to the sub as possible; and after that do I leave a stub? Pull it out but then I pull the out some substrate???

Really would like opinions about these little lovelies during this chaotic time. Thanks

Yes. Cut down close to the sub. The stump is mycelium. itll look gnarly a bunch of bruised stumps but it'll be fine.

I just completed a harvest earlier and the stumps were so bruised it looked like bright wet ink.

They also help keep a microclimate for pins during subsequent flushes.

If you pull and twist you have this huge messy sub and all these sub covered stems. Yea it mostly falls off in the drying process but its still sloppy af.

Also, by twisting and pulling, if youre not careful, youll take neighboring pins and leave divets in the sub which will just hold water and get funky.

I cut, rinse them in sink with collander/drain.. pat dry with paper towel and load into the dehydrator. Nice and clean

For those tricky ones, I cut them away from the cluster with an exacto knife and then twist and pull. Usually comes out pretty nicely without disturbing the rest.
